Picked up a bit of server gear this week

Got a nice early Christmas present earlier this week. Got an email asking if I'm interested in 6 racks full of various server equipment. I went to see it the next day, agreed on the price and made arrangements to have it picked up. Needed a big truck with a power tailgate. Now it is all in my shop.

Got everything at shred price, so I’m very happy. Estimated about 7000-8000 lbs total weight. Lots of hard drive raid arrays, all full of hard drives. There are about 700 hard drives in total, plus a couple of racks full of servers, routers, UPS, etc. Everything is 100% complete, no parts have been removed.
In addition, picked up another 1-1/2 pallets of mixed PC’s and servers from an office building on Friday, started to tear down, already found a working 500 GB SATA hard drive and an i5-2500 CPU.
Super busy lately, getting another smaller load on Monday too!

When I first went to see the load, I talked to the seller, and could see that he just wanted to get rid of it, but he did want to get some money for it. The weight I just estimated, one of the hard drive array racks had sticker on it saying “net weight 1450 lbs”, so I could guesstimate the rest of the weights. I knew the truck rental runs around $200 or so, so I offered accordingly. Overall it came out to roughly shred price, including delivery. The seller accepted my offer without the slightest hesitation, I probably could have low balled him some more. However, I still feel better about offering a more fair price.

    Wow! That's a load!

You'll either do very well, or will get a huge power bill!
