And for the gift that keeps on giving... took a ride up to Fulton to get my brother-in-law and came back with two powerbooks, a dell laptop, a hp laptop, 4 sticks of ddr memory, a stick of ddr3 memory, and 2 power supplies. The laptops will be broken down and their parts sold on ebay and two of the ddr sticks are going into my tower, not sure what to do with the rest.
Received a phone call from Christine Vincitore of Macerich who owns Great Northern mall a bit ago. Aparently their hurting for tenants and someone mentioned to her what I do and was curious if I wanted to rent a space because what I do is unique or something to that effect. The spot she wanted to rent me was an ex-Verizon spot behind a cell-phone repair shop which would be a good set up as all the Verizon fixtures are still there and would be included, not to mention utilities. However rent on that spot is $1,200/mo. I had to politely decline until I could attempt to get some sort of financing together since no one on here takes partnerships/affiliates/whatever their called seriously. I kid about that last line because it's my opinion and mine alone.

Devinthascrapper is looking for your ebay services. See his glasses post.
Just got back from a small gig - seems a local goes and bids on those storage locker auctions. Came back with 3 crt tvs and a printer. Looks like one of these has the old radial knobs on it so it's a UHF TV. He said though that now that he knows what I do and where I am, any electronics he gets from these auctions are coming to me so I think I made a pickup stick lol. Also waiting to hear back from a member on here about a place that may or may not pay for crt tubes.
Anyone know how to change thread titles? Mine don't seem to change for some reason as it won't let me edit my very first post.
Such fun in the snow ^.^
Sold the pickup - got $375 for it. Time to go hunting for another with a I6 and 4wd. Thought i'd share.

So now I'm a no one?
I've always said with Partnerships, YMMV. I have a working one right now, an one of the few voices who comes out in favor of them at times. Of course I'm in favor if one does their homework an protects themselves an their partners.
Jus' saying..not everyone is against them.

I was being sarcastic SirS - nothing aimed at you directly. I'll always be on the hunt for the perfect partner. Also looking into becoming 501c3. I know what that entails so no one needs to say so. Also, ScrapperNJ26, don't put words in my mouth, it isn't nice.
I know hence the winky smiley.
I'm never sarcastic or a smart ass. Ever. EVER!

Confused here....when does writing "woohoo" construe putting words in ones mouth?
Jon.
I misread something. Sent ScrapperNJ26 an apology.

Thought I'd share as I'll need it to expand.

I'd like everyone's opinions on this and let me know what you'd like to see to get you to pledge. Why? I'd like to see it succeed.
Current photos of what you are already doing to work towards opening the shop would be nice, make it an organic human story. Start with why you are doing this, where you started, where you are now and where you'd like to be. Donors want to see tangible progress. Putting up a copy of your business plans would help as well. What I have seen work well on kickstarter is a demo video with high production value. I can't tell you how many people are simply blown away by the production value of the video and hadn't put any thought into what they were actually donating money for. Almost as if they were entertained enough by the video to pay for the "admission ticket" to your film.
Concur with M89, spice it up!! If you can get the mall folks to let you walk through that unused space and have you narrate what you envision as you walk through, that might be a cool vid to post. Maybe show where you have been working on stuff now in your garage and/or basement. Good luck!!
I agree.
A wall of text and generic recycling jpeg doesn't make me want to give you money. Explain what you're doing, why you're doing it and why you love it. A video isn't a bad idea but unless its done really well it won't help your cause. You're off to a good start but in order to raise funds you're going to need more than what's on that page.
Throw some numbers out there. Tell people how much ewaste ends up in landfills. Explain the laws about discarding electronics in new York and how you're here to provide a service for the community. Tell people your company will offer free pickup on x amount of things and how giving their electronics to you instead of best buy is supporting a local small business owner who loves his community and wants to serve it. Give people your personal side. They would much rather give money to someone they can relate with and respect then give money to some guy who wants a handout to get into a mall. Give them the heart warming stuff (as heart warming as scrapping can be) and hit then with the facts that prove having you in a facility will benefit them directly.
Best of luck!
PS - I would have given you $400 for the truck

Appreciate the feedback and yeah you're right - something that pops to want people to click on it and read. Hey CT I think I let the truck go for $400, I don't remember - guy wanted the trans out of it and had a flatbed so away it went.

And, there's a fight....
I think it would be beneficial to explain why you need that space in the mall. I don't know what the circumstances are, but that would make it easier. The recycling centers out here are in the poor side of town. Back there, it may be different. I'd like to see the reasoning, though.
I think we could do alright in New York. I'd just import F150s from out here!
