    The Logansryche Thread

Yes I figured it was about time to make my own. I've been wanting to for awhile now but didn't want to until things started to take off and it seems like they have. I posted to some FB yardsale/bst groups and people are coming out the woodwork with tv's and CRTs! O.O And they don't mind paying my acceptance fee either! Looks like the 26th will be super busy for Rycon Dismantling(I didn't think there'd be anyone on FB with it being Christmas Eve). I'll post what I got when I go get it. Until then, have a good Christmas ^.^

Wow... start mentioning you're an electronics dismantler and people come out of the woodword with CRT monitors, rear projections tvs, and flat CRTs but when you mention you need to charge them to offset what I'm charged, suddenly no one wants to talk to you. Am I doing something wrong or... alot of people said they could take their tvs to Best Buy but there's heavy stipulations. Then again alot griped about the Jan 1. e-scrap bill. Oh well, guess I'll keep at it. Something has to surface, right? Still waiting on address' from people on the other stuff.

Don't be discouraged by these people with TVs and Monitors...you really don't want to deal with them in the long run if you can help it. Places that accept them, and even charge to take them, are doing so more as a service than a revenue source. When someone asks what kind of business I have, the first thing they mention is that they have a TV that they need to get rid of, I don't charge, but tell them they have to drop it off...and that's the end of that conversation.

Heh oddly enough alot of people that want their older tvs gone were either projection or console. Two of the heaviest tvs in the industry(well, residental side anyhow). I can't see anyone moving them for free, but thanks for the kind words or encouragement.

Seems I can't find my other posts about CRT Stuff but I've been speaking to a guy named John Kinkaide with NuLife glass. I've been corresponding with him on and off for a week now, and those needing an outlet for CRTs in NY/PA can send them to me first or right to NuLife glass. To those needing an outlet for CRTs in the Carolina's, John said they have a processor in Mertyl Beach that then sends the intake to them. Only issue is wither you take them to the processor in MB or send them to me to send to them in Dunkirk(I'm signing a contract with them after the first), it costs money per pound. I thought I would share as this gives me more encouragement to try and get these CRTs from the locals so Best Buy can stop stacking them in a warehouse.

Think things are looking up for me - lady messages me that she has an lcd screen and a 5-disc cd player she wanted to get rid of so I took my helper over and got em. The TV's a Heiel brand 22" LED LCD TV and the 5-disc cd player is a TEAC PD-D2390. By the looks of it, both will end up being torn down for parts.

I know what I'm doing, it's the rest of Syracuse that doesn't seem to grasp what needs to be done about CRTs. I know come the first I'll be curb co shopping to see all the violates.

Looks like I just jumped on the bandwagon. I was so sure I could make doing EScrap only work but it seems that would possibly only work within our community here on SMF, so I'm off tomorrow to take a peek at a complete 360 w/games and pickup a washer. Not saying anything bad about doing both at the same time, actually it's worked out good. This lady with the 360 and the washer has some CRTs she want's gone also so tomorrow will be a full day ^.^ The silver lining if you will.

I guess this is where I'll update everything to do with me and my business so here we go. Got a callback from John Kinkaid(broker for NuLife Glass) this morning and he said I would have to provide by own gaylords(which might be a problem) and that the way they work is he issues out contracts to business', organizations and individuals and hope they can act on it. Lowest contract he said they've ever done is 5,000 lbs(2 gaylors I think) a month. I have another meeting with him on the 6th and hopefully he can explain more about the contracts in detail(kinda hard to hear when he's talking on a cell phone). He also said that you can't just drop off CRT tubes to the smelter in Dunkirk or security will get upset so it looks like they only let the freight company in when their suppose to be in and unload.

I was also told there is a drop off site in Myrtle Beach for NuLife glass under a different name in case anyone didn't want to send the screens to them through me(or any other scrapper that does business with them). I see alot of potential in this business relationship however it relies on two things: Buyer/Seller Membership and charging people for their CRTs(both of which I have issues with). I tried this model locally was laughed out the door as my main competition on CRTs is Best Buy, The Salvation Army, and Goodwill and all people has to is deliver their TV/monitors to them for free. I would attempt to reason with The Salvation Army and Goodwill but the people they have running their stores are as pig-headed as a Wal-Mart Executive. I have been testing the waters on taking an appliance(stove,washer,dryer,etc..) if they want to get rid of their TV but I dunno. I don't want to switch things around too many times to scare away my audience.

Some companies will charge $500 to come remove a rear projection monster . You will have to explain that your a much more conveinent option . The have to understand they are paying for the conveinence of not having to hump a tube TV down to the best buy goodwill Salvation Army . Imagine the look on someone's face after they take a 60 rear projection into best buy .

You might have luck on Craig's for gaylords or skids with the huge 5 ply cardboard boxes .

Yep, I tried explaining that to a few people and they just brushed me aside like they knew more then me - even after linking them to the NY Electronics Bill for the first and Best Buy's faq for buying TVs. They'll get theirs after the first. To my knowledge The Salvation Army or Goodwill won't move them from your property. Oddly enough, digging further into Best Buy's FAQ found that if you want your TV gone without buying a TV, they'll charge you $20 per TV. I was already attempting to charge that lol.

I would think with your states regulations ,business will pick up very soon . I think $20 is more than fair . What's that a pack and a half of smokes up there .

Just came back from Ben Weissman with two microwaves. Apparently their telling people to smash the grille to vent the freon on window a/c's or it's a $15 charge so I kept that in the truck. Would've also had more but the lady with the washing machine called back and said her landlord was being a pill about having it removed dispite the fact that it was broken and forgot my box of pc metal/tin.

Looks like they counted both as mixed tin. Guess it makes sense as I dunno what they would've taken it as otherwise.

I would certainly not smash one then sign a legal bill of sale saying I was responsible for said "freon removal"

Just curious as to who said this?

I have been told to come back with tags (papers) or asked politely not to bring Freon containing items or for a fee to remove the Freon ... Never to smash them!?!?!?!
I know your probably on the same page but to think a yard would be telling this to their customers seems insane... Unless they don't give 2 you know whats about their customers... it's setting you up to take the fall if something ever happened.
There ain't nothing wrong with an honest days work. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.- Old Man

I know your probably on the same page but to think a yard would be telling this to their customers seems insane... Unless they don't give 2 you know whats about their customers... it's setting you up to take the fall if something ever happened.
Yeah because I mean, I'm sure all of it's gone because it doesn't blow cold anymore but was told to smash to grille to make sure. If I have HVAC tools I could safely remove it but not sure where to get those. Looks like that a/c's going back into the basement.

On the plus side I get to drive to Nedrow tomorow for a pickup so I'll end up going back to Ben Weisman and I'm supose to be looking at a complete 360 w/games tonight if this lady ever gets me her address lol.

The equipment to properly recover the refrigerant will cost you over $1000 if bought new. In order to sell the recovered refrigerant, you need to be certified. Test is fairly easy. I took it thru a school in the eastern end of Massachusetts. $200 for the review material, a half day review in the class room and the test.

My main yard tells people all the time that units need to be evacuated, but doesn't tell them about the fine or where they could get it done legally, unless of course they ask.

Looks like they counted both as mixed tin. Guess it makes sense as I dunno what they would've taken it as otherwise.

The statement on the bottom of the receipt has been there for over a year. It was on the Albany locations receipt when they opened. I had heard from MattyNoNeck that they were charging for items that didn't have the Freon removed. All the more reason to get certified and get the equipment. I did and will not have that problem ever again.

Lady messages me over facebook last night and says she has a washer and a chest freezer she wants gone so I tell her ok I'll be out with my helper between this time and this time today and she says ok. We get over there and the lady proceeds to tell me that Lowes put this behemoth of a front-load washer in her house and hooked it up. Within a week it was leaking at the washer so a repair guy came out and did something to it but he said he had to get a part for it and never returned, so he bought a used top-load and sat the front-load in the back yard. As I said, this thing was a behemoth of a front-load washer and was new(I mean so new it still had the tags on it). Took it to the yard and got this.

I dunno about you but I thought new washers were suppose to be lighter. Also, reguarding my experience with the window a/c I purchased a tap valve and borrowed a tank/gauges from a friend and siphoned out the freon. Wasn't anything in it but air so that was good. Also found out Ben Weitsman was nominated just this year for being New York's largest and cleanest yard in the entire state - I'm proud to give them my business.
