I'm in Wyoming, but I looked into doing business in Montana.
Here's what I know:
According to the MCA (Montana Code Anointed),
E-Waste recycling facilities must register with the state. Most people can probably go "under the radar", but having CRTs will be like having a target on your back.
According to EPA guidelines, large quantities of CRTs puts a larger target on your back. I'm not too versed in the federal EPA laws, but I know enough that I don't want any part of it!
I don't know where you're at. Montana is a large state. I know the Billings area the best. In Billings, there are three places that take CRTs (That I know of- there may be more). Two charge a lot (One charges $0.50 per pound), and I have my doubts on the other one.
So, you're left with what could become hazardous waste easily, will have targets on your back, and will be out a lot of money if the local dump laws change.
That aside, I still don't put CRTs in the dump. It doesn't seem responsible by my standards.
Just my $0.02
