Found a LOT of tools and booze in cars, the last one had one full case of beer and another one with only 3 cans gone..... which were opened and rolling round the floor. There was also an empty Vodka bottle.
Amazingly, the car was written off when it went off the road, hit a tree and rolled down an enbankment. Driver was fine but got arrested for DUI on the spot. In another stroke of brilliance, the same guy tried fighting the insurance company for his payout. Didn't get far. We offered him $400 for the wreck and got it 3.5 months later for $100 after he had paid the tow company almost $1000 in storage fees and the thing had been sitting without a pane of glass in the thing in the weather.
Get a lot of high end sound systems out of the cars and things like Big bore stainless exhausts. Sold one the other week for WRX and the guy offered $500 up front for the thing. Couldn't say yes fast enough as the whole car only cost $900 landed in the yard.
The other day one came in with a bunch of arrows in the back. obviously belonged to somone into archery. We have also found heaps of empty ammunition casings and a few packets of live ones. More unusual here than what it probably would be in the states given our draconian gun laws. I found a Snap on electric impact driver set the other day in one under the front seat. Used but still works perfectly. Look on
ebay put them around $400 for the same set new.
Got this one car in that just plain looked creepy. It was a black turbo forester but just wasn't right. I started going over it and all strange bits were pulled off but thrown in the back or on the floor. Started looking at the stickers on the thing and realised it had been drug searched by the police. They pulled the fuel tank sender out and had removed radiator hoses, taken the spare tyre off the rim, pulled all the trim off, the heater box out and just gone through it. There were also stickers saying the thing had been checked for sharps dangerous items and been cleared. For some reason, that was just a sinister looking car so we stripped it and got it out of the place pronto.
Sold the motor out of the thing and turned out it had been HEAVILY modified and was basicaly a race car engine. It wouldn't run right when the kid that bought it put it in his car and when we looked at the computer that came out of the donor car, we saw it was an aftermarket type with a custom wiring loom. The guy was glad to pay another few hundred bucks for that and apparently he now has the fastest thing in town.
Maybe the most entertaining thing we have ever found was several boxes of " Adult" products. The mechanic pulled out one particular Phallic item and said it was a rubber clutch alignment tool! We had no explaination for what some of the other things were for though even when we looked at the box. There were a heap of handcuffs of surprising strength and qulaity which were Immeadiately used for hanging parts out the front where customers can see them and the beauty is, they are also secured!
Its amazing what people don't take out of the cars. Seems they have even a minor Bingle and just walk away and never take CD's, clothes, parking permits and passes to fun parks, car care products or anything other than their phone, wallet and maybe the rug rats. Also seems a LOT of people have accidents right after filling the fuel tank and getting new tyres!
I'd definately be taking the tool box before the whineing kids!
