I have seen some good "YouTube" videos, very few of the good ones are about scraping. I'm starting to view YouTube more of a entertaining experience. More like the "Comedy Channel" of the internet!

I agree about that entertainment value of youtube. There are some really good "basic" scrapping videos there but at some point you need to learn more and grow. That's when you need to become a member at the SMF.

I asked my buyer once. They run them thru a shredder, then a magnetic separator to remove iron, an eddy current separator to remove aluminum, all the rest plastic/copper/circuit board goes to the smelter/refiner. No need to have any minimum wage workers.

All E-scrappers: Watch this and Cry.. First few moments seeing all those HD's go in with boards on it made me want to vomit!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

Wow lookit those shredders go, pity alot of that stuff gets shredded - especially when us as scrappers know what components are what.

SSI sponsored a series on the science channel called mega shredders. Cool show.

Why is it a pity? Would you rather this stuff end up in the landfill?
If you watch enough of these videos you will see that everything is shredded and separated. Steel, plastic, copper and yes gold. Most of the videos don't go into great detail about the final refining process and how much money they make from the PM's. I believe it's left out for a reason. These companies like to talk about how they are keeping electronics out of landfills and how they are saving the earth and they are doing a good thing but their making a buttload of money in the process.

It's me being me because my time's free, but I'd rather sit there and break that stuff down. I can see how a shredder benefits a company like SSI who deals in high volume.

I would like to see a good video where a big company shows the whole process from beginning to end. End being gold and other PM's.

You also have to consider what is more important than E-Scrap. They are shredding these drives for security reasons. Much more important than making $20 off some boards.

Yes hard drives are shredded for security reasons but I guarantee they will sell the shredded drives for further processing if they don't do it themselves.
