Getting upset

On top of losing my black lab to cancer people keep saying they will take my load in with me but they keep having things come up I understand but I really need the money so guys should I just start saving for a truck?

I think you must be 21 or older to rent most anything without someone to sign for it.


I have no idea your age but anytime is a good time to save money. If you are over 16 saving for a truck is a must, and even if your younger and you don't have someone that is going to help you pay for it or buy it for you than you need to save up for one!

I am not 16 yet, I will be in 5 weeks. Its very hard relying on people to take in loads, I only get in once a month if I'm lucky, but I'm fortunate my dad has access to a dump trailer and truck so I can take in huge loads.

Also who are you relying on to take you in? And how much stuff are you sitting on?

Patience is key, me being around your age (I think) you don't "need" money, unless your supporting people or there is something along those lines, Instead of spending your $ just save it and get that truck, and than you don't have to rely on anyone.

Possibly stockpile until you get so much that you can take in a huge load, or multiple large loads.

Save up some money, and get the best truck that you can. My business model over the last 5 years has changed four times. Every time, a truck has been a crucial piece.

I'd definitely recommend a truck. An old Chevrolet or Ford can be had for about $1000-2000. It will pay for for itself.

You'd be amazed what a small truck can do. I've towed over 4000# with my 1992 Dakota.

Renting or borrowing a truck is the last thing that I'd want to do.

Whether I am working at the computer store, doing E-Waste, cleaning up the farm, or just driving for pleasure, a truck comes in handy! After you get a truck, look into a cheap trailer. I use the back half of a GMC. It lets me get my load ready, and keep my truck empty.

It doesn't seem like he is 16, so renting a truck is out of the picture, and same as borrowing. If you are 16 than borrow a truck, or possibly if you know someone who has one laying around for sale make payments to them for it, just explain your hard working and you will pay them (only if you will)

What about a bicycle trailer? And will your yard accept non ferrous from you if your under 18? What about saving all your scrap till your 16 and then using that to buy a truck? That way you only will have to haul it in once with someone else instead of pestering them all the time.

I think a bike trailer going to a scrapyard is way out there. I'm sure he lives miles away. My yard buys all metals from me and writes me a check and I'm 15.

Here in Oregon you have to be 18 to sell nonferrous, and there is a 3 day waiting period. And the check is mailed to the address on your dl. Unless you have registered with the state as a incorporated business and then they mail it to the business address. Ferrous is cash same day unless a check is preferred. Different states have different laws YMMV . H&S, my advise is to find one friend/ relative that can take you once a month or so, plan it far enough ahead so there are not conflicts, and be extremely respectful of thier time and equipment. Have everything ready to load into the truck in cardboard boxes or bins so if it gets slid in the bed it dosnt scratch or ding up thier truck. Buy them lunch and pay for thier gas. And most important of all be respectful of thier time.
