    Snow-pocalypse

Well, they're saying up to 15 inches of snow in the next 24 hours here. Good time to break down some smaller motors, strip wire and drink a few cold ones. Stay safe everybody and have a good rest of the weekend. Thanks to everybody for the help this week too, I really appreciate it. CHEERS!

I don't believe it till it's on the ground.
I run into all kinds of people doing snow removal and it's a great time to plug for scrap... The other guys are inside stripping motors
under an inch an hour isn't too bad maintainable to a certain degree for a crew that knows it's route, bad spots, low priority and so forth .

Snow isn't supposed to hit til late tonight but might have to try networking with plow guys tomorrow night. Never thought about that before. That's a good idea!

No mention of snow in the forecast yesterday but I guess by 10pm last night they said we might get 1-2 inches overnight...woke up to 6+ inches.

Whew .... i'm getting winter weary already. Seems like it's been colder than usual and the weather patterns are different. The forecasts haven't been very reliable. The snow and cold make for a lot of extra work.

It was weird .... my yard truck started acting up. Would not run well at all. After hours of troubleshooting outdoors with the wind chill at -15 i finally tracked it down to the fuel. It runs well on fresh gas from station A and barely runs on fresh gas from station B. It shouldn't make any difference but it does.

It's something to watch for. If you're going to have fuel problems this is the time of year you'll run into them. You have to be extra careful with your small engines like chain saws & snow blowers because bad gas will destroy the piston/cylinder assembly.

Ahh well .... better days are coming. Another 30 - 45 days and we will be through the worst of it. It's not far off.

Blower on the heater in my truck has been working for a day or 2 then not working for a couple days so I'm dreaming of warmer days lol. I've experienced the same thing with gas from 2 different stations I go to too. Quit going to the one for gas after realizing their gas was the issue

Agreed. truck misfired a month and a half ago, had changed plugs during summer, so changed plug wires ran fine for a week and misfired again..
Threw a can of dry gas in no problems since, about a month now, I get gas all over and haven't figured out which station. More than one redid their storage tanks this previous summer and have these pump type station built now.
strange weather patterns indeed, but way better than last years ice capade.

Ummm ... I'm trying to figure it out but it's a bit of a puzzle. Best guess is that it's phase separation. The blended fuel we're using is a mix of gasoline & alcohol. When the blend starts to separate you get a low octane gas and a high octane alcohol. It's plain enough to see when the fuel is all whitish but the process doesn't happen all at once. The break down happens in steps.

It's weird, because you would think that the fuel would start going bad during the heat of the summer but the opposite seems to be true. I seem to be running into problems during the coldest part of the winter. Anyway, the truck won't idle worth a darn with a carbureted engine.

Crazy day: It was 5 deg F. with a hard wind out of the North when i got up this morning and when i checked the temp at 7:30 PM it was 45 deg with a wind coming up from the South. There must be some snow or rain on the way for Monday. That wet slushy snow is hard to push. Gotta stay right on top of it.

Gabe .... why don't i send you a cooler full of the stuff to sample ? If you like it, we can ship to you an endless number of gaylords !

When I had my CB Radio store one of my regulars that stopped in to have some work done, or just to shoot the bull, drove a tanker for a gas distributor. He told me one time that the gas is allowed up to 10 % water in the load of gas, and if it's way under 10 % then they would add some gallons to the truckload to bring the percentage of water up. Could be that load of "gas" had a little more water.

And don't forget that the alcohol in the gas will attract water. Just use a bottle of Heet every so often, or every tank if needed to get thru the winter. Just take a quart jar of gas and set it up for a day or two and you'll see where the gas - water separates. You might be amazed with how much really is in there.

I have always had a hunch that the bitter cold will freeze a small amount of water in the tank, maybe just a ridge along the touching edge. If you don't fill up you may have multiple ridges in constant cold temps. now fill up your tank and all those ridges melt adding water to the total.
    just a hunch, no research.
