We did that. Actually we started to have a problem with the primary yard we were selling to. We went and talked to another yard and told them what we can bring in each week. We talked to the big cheese there, he was super nice and he set us up where we are getting very good pricing now, better than we were getting before (where we didn't like to do business anyway). Things are good and we are happy They are a excellent facility to work with so far!
good blue glad to hear it.what are u getting a ton for cars now.i can get from 265-280
245. This same facility normally pays 235 so we're getting a nice bonus.
dang 245 to bad you arent closer or we could hook up and get 280 a ton.
i wish i could get 280/ton for cars
From the center of columbus to my house is 84 miles so that would be 160 round trip for about 50 extra bucks not worth it lol.But to bad you wherent closer to me.
Hey blue i will be up there one day this week.
PM me your number or i'll PM u mine. we'll do lunch and you can checkout our operation.....
Sorry if this is an old thread but i would like to bust your myth. I came from Pa where scrap was 8-11 cents per pound back in 2011. I moved to Tx back in 2012 and scrap was still the same. Then the price drops and in Pa we were down to $1.50/100lbs. While Tx was holding out at $2/hundred. Its around $3/100lbs at most places now. But I did find a place with a shredder thats around $2/100 more than other yards. You might get more taking a semi load to Jersey City though.
It's no myth. Scrap steel is higher here atleast in western PA.
Last I looked, it's $0.03 /lb up here for shred .
I believe it's $9.30 per 100 lb. here is the highest price.
Over here in wind gap (right next to jersey) it just rose to $6/hundred. Everywhere else is $3-3.50/hundred light iron, $5-$5.50/hundrend #1. Aluminums around $.30-$.37/lbs. is it really that good over there in the west? Or is that the price the smaller yards get when they sell their stuff?
I used to buy catalytic converters in Wind Gap. New Castle is almost 5 hours away. The street price is the price, I doubt that they will give anymore money unless you have massive quantities. My ex employee sold like $25k of scrap cars in 6 months and he had to fight to get to $212 instead of $210 per gross ton.
Weitsman has other locations much closer to Wind Gap, I do believe there is one in Scranton. I would try to go those places.
Yes thank you for letting me know about them. I was just looking them up and saw they had one in scranton. Most of the stuff I haul out now is done with a little Toy Taco, but as I get more into scrapping again I may be in need of a higher Priced state wide yard to go to instead of having to haul to low paying local yards or haul stuff all the way back to wind gap if I'm working pretty far away. Now I just need to find an old m1088 or a barely street legal day cab.
Also the place you bought your cats in wind gap, was it RPM or JFR?
I used to deal with a guy named Paul, he was over in Pen Argyl.
