    Full Truck Beds

I havnt been out grabbing scrap lately as I have been focused on other parts of business. However the last couple days I have made a quick round the neighborhoods into town. Ive filled up the truck both times and I can say it feels good to see that big pile of steel sticking out driving down the road. Most people would think of it as a mess or be embarrassed but for some reason I like to show off my load. I guess its a weird addiction and its great to be out driving around even though its paying minimum wage. So even though prices are bad get out and have some fun driving around showing off that pile of junk in your truck.

F350- the wannabes are dying on the vine. Good for you getting the scrap. I have 4-5 scrappers out every garbage night in my area. Since the big drop in steel I haven't seen any.

I haven't been out much lately either, but that's because I love the environment and don't see much point burning fuel for no reason. That said, the times I have gone out I have done well, mostly metal items. It seems no one wants to drag an appliance out into 2-3 feet of snow but they don't mind tossing a light fixture, microwave or old shelf onto the hills at the end of their driveways. Found the newest addition to my "scrap band" last night, a keyboard which I probably would have just scrapped except the guy was still outside and asked me if I wanted the stand, too? I asked if it works and he said the keys are just a little sticky. I'll let my kids play with it until it breaks down and then scrap it anyway.

I hate to say it, but I think this is what we needed. A few years ago, out here anyone with an F150 and a car dolly was a "vehicle recycler". Thinning the herd is painful for all of us, but sadly, I think it's needed.

Oh yeah, I'll drive with metal any day. This load caused a WHP officer to swerve to the outside of his lane when going the other way. I don't know why, though. I was legally loaded, and there were ropes covering everything. Nothing was going anywhere. This is after I took the ropes off. I think I spent 20 minutes undoing ropes!

I don't see anything wrong with hauling scrap. Some people drive to the bank to deposit checks. I drive to the scrap yard to make withdrawals.

I agree, matador, while I'd rather be shoveling metal in and out of the van instead of snow, I kinda wish all the noobs would start now and see there's no $$ to be made and give up. Leave the rest to me!

I find it ironic- I could swear that the green car is a Matador.

I don't think I'll try that trailer and load with my 305! I'll have to put the truck back there!

I'm going to a 1 ton so I can haul more, but this is the largest combination load I've hauled with the Chevrolet:

The truck was actually alright with the load. I was able to do 55 comfortably. Not bad for a truck that was abandoned for 10 years.

Let me ask- do you remember what that green car is? I'm going with a 1973 Matador.

Nope that green car is a 70 something ford. But it's funny you asked because the next load from the same place had a matador. Lol the picture won't download for some reason.

I feel stupid. The door handles screamed American Motors to me.

I should have noticed the Ford hubcap. You win some, you lose some....

Ahh, but the metal you're not picking up is going into the landfill, which isn't good for the environment either...

Maybe because AMC used to buy some parts off one of the big 2 automakers instead of making them themselves. Wife used to own a big style Jeep Cherokee that had Dana front and rear ends, a 360 (Ford maybe) motor with a Ford distributor, and a Chevy firing order with a Motocraft carb. If you pulled a bad part, take it with you cause you never knew who made the bad part.

I've never owned an AMC product, but I've heard that before. If I understand correctly, the Concords and Eagles used a Dodge Powerglide.

I still swear that the door handles look the same:

A little off-topic, here, but why did you choose "Matador" as your screen name?

I had kinda imagined that since you were in the farming game, you had some background dealing with bulls or sumpin'!!

    Yeah, it's not that exciting:

I ended up getting to the point where I started wondering why I was buying common, run of the mill desktops.

So, I came up with a company name and started advertising. I had others do my radio ads, and even went as far as having someone from the radio station do my voicemail message.

I didn't want the man to know I was competing against him until I could completely sever ties.

That was two years ago. Ironically, I don't think he knows about me yet.

    ----------------

I needed a name. I wanted something unique that he'd never suspect. Something that could be anyone- something that could be interpreted differently. I talked with a friend who runs a computer store on the other side of the country. Somehow, we started talking about cars. She likes to drive the classics.

She drives one of these frequently:

It's an American Motors Matador Coupe. I like AMC stuff for their quirkiness (Have never owned one), and figured "Why not".

Not too exciting, but hey, it's a name. Plus, my competitors don't even know that I've been competing!
There are a lot more cool name stories out there: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/intro...orum-name.html

We haven't had bulls for over 15 years. Farming isn't as exciting as the Spanish Matadors may make it seem. It's more like this:

matador: "I'm just a common man. I drive a common van...."
