Went to the local shredder yard today for my first and only February trip.

The light iron heap is as big as it always is, about 35 feet high with very steep sides. Barely any space to park let alone dump a load of metal. After I parked where I was directed to park and had removed all my load tiedown straps I had to move because I was sticking out 12 inches too far for a big dumpster truck to get by me. And of course the dump ground is oozing mud with the air temperature at 25 degrees.

The cast iron and smashed car heaps are also their usual sizes.

What was different today is only 2 other scrappers there. One light iron and one nonferrous. This is normally a very busy yard that I have to wait between 10 to 30 minutes to get into.

At least I got paid $0.0725 lb for light iron/shred.

Not a bad price considering what others are getting.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

Here in NW Wyoming, the prices are:

    $30/Ton Light
    $50/Ton Heavy
    $70/Ton Prepared

It's going down, though. In Billings (Prices are usually higher there), shred is going for $0.02 per pound. I think we'll fall to $20-25/Ton here.
