Scrapping a Studebaker

Doesn't seem reasonable but there's an old Studebaker on my scrapsite and it's so bad it has to go to the crusher.

That is ....IF Studebakers actually get bad enough to need scrapping. Will have a pic eventually.

There's no shame if it's in really bad shape. Out here, old cars were used for erosion control. I go past an old 1930's Chevrolet in a ravine many times every year.

I only cry on the inside when it's something that's still too good to die.

What year? My buddy has a '55 Commander that we've been working on. There may be a part or two that can be salvaged on the worst of rust buckets.

Pnut, I don't know if I'll be able to identify the date or model. I'll look it over in a couple days and take a pic. It's just the shell as the owner rebuilt some and I'm sure it was his parts car. Now the farm was sold, it's in the junkpile and he's out of commission. I really don't want to contact him as he had hard feelings about losing the farm and he had to abandon his removal projects. When he's gone though, I know he has a few more Studebakers on another place. Problem is; he might outlive me !!!

I can probably tell from a picture if it's close to anything we need.

I know where there are six Studebaker trucks from the 50s in a barn that I deliver oats to. I wish I could get one of them, but they are not for sale.

I hope those 5 trucks are insured; old barns like to fall down along with other hazards. It snowed last night so I may have to wait a few days for a decent picture of the Studebaker. Oh hey........could you deliver me about 50 bushel of oats for seed. I'm 200 miles northwest of Omaha.

Sure thing......next time I'm in the neighborhood I'll swing by.

I did notice that somebody already beat me to them......anything with writing/printing on it nowdays seems to sell for a premium.
I sold the doors off this pickup for $25 each. I wish I'd have taken the emblems too; now that you mention it.

There really wasn't much left of this car. No chassis, engine or transmission. I scrapped out the copper radiator and kept the trunk that has the Studebaker emblem on it. The rest went to the big iron pile in the sky at $50 a ton.

It's a 50-52 Commander Starlite Coupe. You can tell by that vast expanse of rear glass going all the way around from door to door. It's really too bad that it is in such bad shape. There are Studebaker nuts out here that would have loved to crawl all over it looking for any bolt or screw they need to finish their ride. If that right side rear glass is not broken, it would be worth going back for.

Definitely a Commander as I saw the imprint of the word where it was removed from the front fender. Sorry to say, I should have removed the glass but when I winched the load down, something exploded above my head and it was that glass you see in the pic. I did remove the two ornaments on the front fender (bubble of glass on the front of a 16 inch dart)....one broke.

I'm keeping tabs on more Studebakers that this guy (previous owner) has. He's pretty much out of commission and very much unable to do anything with them. All I gotta do is outlive him and even THAT is a question. Pnutfarmer, your identification skills on that old Stude sure impresses me...!!!!!
