Ugh!!! Just lost a major client today!

WTF!!! I picked up on Monday a truck bed load of electronics. I called today to pick up tomorrow and they told me I was no longer allowed to recycle for them. It was decision that came from DM about controlling what was being recycled. I payed only on towers, laptops and cellphones. Everything else I got for free. I didn't matter if they had 15 flat screen LCD monitors or 30 lbs of wire it had to go and it was free. Now everything goes to NKS. The manager told me he tried to tell the DM I pay for electronics and that it pays well. DM didn't want to hear and told SM no more.

I realize I can google NKS but I think it would be good to include the What it is at the first mention of NKS.

It seems impossible to over come the problem you are encountering with this customer. If you enjoyed a good relationship with them before I think you may want to continue calling on them. I would not go every week but I would let them know that you are available to help them out. In the mean time start calling on other businesses, you have the experience to deal with them. Good luck, Mike.

That sucks. But maybe a new client appears in the coming days that replaces or surpasses the client you lost. Good luck.

I don't know this organization but even though I have received a kidney transplant I am suspicious of any "charity". To many personal examples of organizations that are legally charities but spend most of the funds on raising more funds and paying the employees.

I wish you the best of luck going up against an organization like that. Mike

Is the DM new? He maybe just a young gun and trying to pinch corners thinking he can make better profit if they handle it them self's verses you buying it. I would stay in touch with the manager that was working with you so when things go south you can jump back in.

    Good luck.

I'd stay "in the area" too. You never know how long the new relationship could last.

This is why my trucks move quickly! It's not mine until it's in the truck, so trust me- the truck will be there quickly!

Had the same situation with our largest client. imposable, surmountable odds in favor of a huge corporation. Just let me say for now don't give up yet. I am very tired right now but will post that story and how we did it a little later. It may be a help to you and others in this situation.

I got to speak with the district operation manager the other day and she made it clear that I would not be able to out bid National Kidney Services (NKS). The reason is that they want to control what is being donated and who it goes to. The NKS has been servicing their second hand furniture store for years and the district ops said its helping people in need. She remarked that she had this conservation with me close to a year ago and wanted to know why I was recycle for their company. I offered to buy the 40 to 50 cellphones I was getting every month and she told me is wasn't about the money, its about the people we are helping.

Anyways, one of the guys who work their use to work at Ohio Thrift. He said what ever NKS couldn't sell they would donate it to Ohio Thrift. Then the electronics would be damaged out and sold off as scrap. Its a huge process of corporate write-offs and you rub my back I'll rub yours.

I did post a story about a personal situation very similar to this. I am sorry about you loss. There are some situations that seem and for the moment insurmountable, especially in the realm of "charitable corporations". Most people go about there lives not knowing that charitable and corporation do not always go together for the benefit of man kind in general but for the sou purpose of profit.

Some examples are The united way which spends 90% or more of its donations on "operating expenses or that "goodwill" is actually owned by one man who gets $1,500,000 per year as the CEO or what ever title he chooses. Another that comes to mind is the "Donate your car or boat" scam In most cases the charity gets maybe $5 from each car and how many are even reported. It is a net work set up by one person to get a piece of the action. It is basically a net work of scrap yards and tow companies. who send a piece of the Profit to the organizer They in turn give a small portion to Good will who takes another piece and a minute part goes to a company who sells donated items for near retail prices and pay little to their employees or those in need.

This is a hard situation to over come because 92% of today's Americans don't bother or have the time to research these charitys tho the info is very easy to get, especially a busy exec of a company struggling to make a profit.

Morality in general and in business got us where we are today. It started with the "robber barons of the 1800s when there were few laws governing business . as they came under the scrutiny of Honest Regulators they slowly with their vast wealth over a period of decades had their own regulators appointed or elected. and here we are.

Elections are financed by billionaires and trillion ares, until that changes nothing else will.

Ugh!!! Just lost a major client today!

Yanno...if its of any consequence you can "donate" the payment youd otherwise make to whatever charity theyd like and tgen give them a receipt for tax or other purposes. I have one client at bell ambulance I do this for. he picks to whom it goes and i cut the check. Pretty simple.
WI ITAD LLC, IT Liquidation Services, we remarket, buy and sell scrap electronics No customer too large or small!

NKS pays for kidney dialysis for those who can't afford it including veterans. In turn your client is getting a larger deduction than you could ever afford to pay in cash. Go after the NKS account. I am sure they would rather have the money than the hassle. Tell them you can service them nationwide and then let the forum guys help out, just a thought.

With some research, planning, and diligence, this could be a great Idea.mcw

TOTALLY agree on that. NKS would probably be MUCH better to deal with. And yea, we are spread out well enough that most of us could handle contract work. I know Ken and I could cover 4 or 5 states on our own so there is that.

I myself have been in this situation. We had tried to land a local discount store chain. It was only when we used the route of having my son's high school cross country team as the middle man that it worked. The discount store has also told me that they have had multiple contacts for companies to purchase their e-waste. Fortunately the company has thought that helping a local school has been a good thing for them. I have been able to either have cross country team members and coaches help on a limited basis and have actually hired a few of the team members to help with tear down on the weekends. I have ended up spending a wee bit more than if I had purchased the material, but not enough to worry about. I can legitimately say that I have been contributing to the cross country team also.

The team has more money to uniforms, shoes, and events than they have every had in the past. It has been a good deal for both of us.

Diggydiggy, olddude and armygreywolf all have the right idea. I can say that this method can work.

So I was on my phone earlier and didn't get to say everything. That idea about a nationwide network has been going through my head for a few months now. I am actually more or less leaving scrapping just cause my full time job is too demanding for me to do both but I wanted you guys to have this idea. Check out best buys web site and how they do their buy backs. They don't take all ewaste, but if one of you guys approached them with the right business plan, it would be great for all forum members and could possibly relaunch recycling campaigns across the nation. Think big I always say.
