    You never know

My day started with a trip to the vet. $170.00 bill. So I'm a tad glum after that. Load up a huge box of computer / printer plastic to take to a site that doesn't pay for it, but doesn't charge me, either. As I get out of the truck, dude comes over and says "bad news - we don't take plastic anymore...at least nothing beyond water bottles". Double d**n. Apparently, a local thrift store (or stores) has been bombarding them with all kinds of plastic, so ..... I drive away.

I go back home and throw our household recycling in the truck and mentally prepare to pay to dump the computer plastic. Guys takes a look at the box and only charges me a dollar. A small victory.

As I'm tossing cardboard and plastic into the single stream compactor, I see a guy backed up to the "metal only" dumpster. Looked like he tossed a dishwasher, but not 100% sure from my vantage point. Anyway, I pulled a card out of my pocket and handed it to him as he was getting in his vehicle and said "if you have anything like this in the future, I'll come get it and save you a trip". He said thanks, but mentioned he lived in a town about 15-20 miles away. I told him that was fine.

So I'm still unloading my crap and he pulls out beside me and stops to ask if I take cars. I immediately said yes (mind you, I never have .. but why let that stop me?). He said he has an Audi A6 with 250k on it with a bad transmission. Just wants to keep his wheels, but otherwise after he checks with wife to confirm, he will call me to come get it. My thought on this is, even if I pay to have it towed to my property, I should turn a couple of bucks on this thing. I have zero storage cost, so it will come down to how I dispose of it.

This may never come to pass. He may never call. He may have someone offer him a chunk of change for it. The bigger point is this: I will give out cards FAR more often now because you never know who has material they want to get rid of. I was kind of ill and p***ed off about that vet bill, then double p***ed off about the loss of my plastic dump, but ended up with some good things (maybe) happening.

Chin up and drive on, guys and gals - you never know what's going to happen with the next person you talk to!

    You never know

Very wierd...I had a similar start to my day...$400 in unexpected costs and being told by my better half I have to shave and get a hair cut today ( its only been 3 months ) bc her family is having a get together...at my place yay! So as Im leaving the landfill ( god forbid our outside cans have trash in them ) a guy is unloading direct tv boxes and dvrs with a dolly. Turns out he is a private sub for direct and a couple other big boys. Long story short I now have a customer for sch. pickup on the first of every month. Gotta love the butterfly effect ;-)

    I've got an A4.
    Check that thing out good.
250k isn't that much on an Audi.
You should do well on parts. But I'd try and sell it whole. Put some new(used) wheels on it and post it on cl.
Hopefully it will work out . cars are fun if you do it right. Lots been posted. I've been flipping cars since before I could legally drive and I still learn a thing or two from here.

Iam 57 now and I still love cars like I did when I was a kid.

The bigger question is does it have a title?

True. But if your getting it from the legal owner one can be obtained.

Oh yeah, if this materializes I will make sure bases are covered on title. We'll see. After a couple of craptacular events earlier in the morning, it was nice to have something (maybe) positive happen.

clck - i hear you on cleanup / company coming / etc. .... I'm catching it at the moment for printers & monitors in the garage preventing wife from parking inside. I stripped all the good (i.e., fun) stuff (PCs, etc.) and put these off until last because they suck (to me) to breakdown. But, duty calls.... trying to put a dent in it this weekend.
