    Trip to the recycling center

I went to the recycling center with some plastic bottles and a few alum cans, this is what I got. Sorry for blurry pic my hands were shaking.

What do they take for your plastic bottles, #1 & 2 or more than that? What were they a pound?

I don't even want to ask what you got a pound for your Al cans. Way, way more than our 60 cents around here with your redemption bounty per can. Just wondering if I should explore hiring a border Iowain to take my cans to the closest redemption center because they pay a nickel a can and I'm only 10 miles from the border. The Dutchers over in nw IA would probably find that amusing...

Plastic soda bottles usually go for around $1.00/lb. If they go piece by piece it's 0.05 each for up to 16 oz, 0.10 ea over 16 oz

#1 and #2 are different types of plastic. #1 is PET plastic and #2 is HDPE.

Both are thermoform plastics that can be used to make different things over and over again. One reason they are some of the most widely used and most recyclable. I'm sure there are some other thermoforms plastics as well. Other plastics are thermoset, they're heated and formed once. Styrenes would be an example of those as well as probably ABS. These can be ground up as used as fill ,etc. but its my understanding that they can't be re-formed in a mold. 2 years in plastic shop class in high school as loooong time ago...
