Huh? Sit down like I do? Say what? I clock 60 + hours a week at the scrap yard. Then I scrap Sunday through Thursday. So...how do I sit down? When do I sit down? I average 4 hours sleep a night.

Drum up business on back country roads? What? I can predict when folks will put their trash out? What do you think I should do? Knock on every door and say ''give me your scrap?''

That's not how CurbCo works dude.

And WHO said I pass stuff up? Don't steel prices suck by you? Being in the scrap yard busines I can safely say that if a yard is paying MORE than they make when the market isn't there they are not making money honey.

Also, do you think I am so stupid I don't check out prices at competing yards? Do you think I put all my eggs in one basket?

Finally, do you live by me? Do YOU know the yard prices for steel by me? At every yard? I do. And let me tell you, 3 or 4 cents a lb SUCKS no matter who you are.

    have a nice day

If not cruising garbage routes and classifieds for a hatchback or minivan full of shred, or risking prison stealing cats off cars, makes me lazy, then I'm one lazy SOB...

Processing PCBs and heat exchangers and motors full time, given the logistics of scouting or whole selling it, most intelligent people can just go do other stuff for exponential net... A lot of people are pretty intelligent and can move industries with profit margins..

Yes i found that the curb has become a waste of time. I moved onto dumpsters and got in with the companys cause they see me everyday around the same time. Any one can do garbage routs and race around trying to beat the other guy across town for a weed wacker. plus a load of curb shred witch is usually low grade border line garbage.

i just got in with a company that remodels hospitals and health care facilities. I use to hit their dumpster every day but now since the prices are up and everyone is like "IM A SCRAPPER!!!" and showing up making a mess so they asked for my number. I was down to one day a week running the curb but now, no time for the curb co anymore. plus all that stop and go is annoying. And people flag you down to ask if you want a tv or a fridge thats in their basement or some other crap thats 20 miles away and get mad when you say it aint worth it

Yeah I just run load boards with a 36' dump trailer and 53' dry van and make a scouting scrappers annual net in days...

I talked to a few companies I use to get pallets of computers and circuit boards from and they say soccer dads are buying at a loss because of speculation on gold trading. I use to buy 20 pallets of laptops for like 4k, and part of that 4k was a LTL carrier bill.... lol

I was looking to add another pick up truck and trailor to my fleet. But why drop 50K on a new truck (not a 20yr old beater truck) to beat the hell out of it but thats what they are made for. I was thinking of skipping the new pick up and mabey get a stake body truck. One forum member rescently got one and am thinking this may be the route to go. considering that the hvac shop i get stuff from only does commerical and industrial jobs. They have many roof top units in their shop they gut and run in the shell of the unit to the yard. I have a feeling when prices drop back to 70/ton for steel and $1.40 for copper they may ask me to take them and i would like to be ready for anything.

I was also thinking that my 2 cousins haul stone from the quarry for their fathers trucking co so mabey i could get them to drop a 28ft dump over here on a friday and fill by sunday. (The yard i use is open sundays) probably do this once a month and pay their gas and $200 for their time but IDK. But when, not if, prices start to fall, This plan wouldnt work out so well. Its all adaptation in this game.
