I agree! I like the money i make when I sell stuff, but the unique things I find, ecspecially old things, that I keep always excite me more.

I currently work within the waste stream and you are absolutely right. So many things are thrown away everyday that have value, some, very high value. I've heard the U.S. is the most wasteful of countries. I see it as having the most potential for those of us looking in the right places, developing the right eye. Not just precious metals, but historical items, one of a kind things, knowing that the one thing that you hold in your hands may be the last one surviving from a long lost era.

Most people think about treasure hunting in the terms of looking for a stash of gold coins. Though I would love to find something like that, there is so much value all around us. Not just in the potential sell value, but the history and stories you learn along the way.

When someone limits themselves, saying I will only look for this or that, they miss out on so much more. Look at everything at least once, never discount anything until you're satisfied that it has no value.

You should do what you love .... and this makes you happy. It's a niche market. You know what you're doing and you're good at it. You're financially independent so you can do what you want when you want . How is that a bad thing ?

It's not for everybody. The way i look at it is that some things have practical value and other things have sentimental value. Times are tough for a lot of folks and that's likely to make them very expedient.

The safest bet when looking at a new venture is to consider the hierarchy of needs. What are the things that people who are just living paycheck to paycheck need to survive ? Would those things would be water,food,fuel, housing, clothing, medical care ?

The further down the chain you are ... the smaller the market for what you have to sell ... the less likely your chances of success.

If a guy just got paid he's more likely to go buy groceries & pay the rent than he is to buy an art deco lamp from the 1920's on e-bay.

See what i'm saying ? You have to roll with the changes or risk being left by the wayside as the world marches on.

It makes sense .... plan your moves and proceed forward in a steady & methodical way.

Work smart .... not hard.

If it's okay i'm going to jack Aesop's fable. It was a race between the tortoise and the hare. The important thing to understand is that the fix is in, the race is rigged, and those staging the event keep moving the finish line back.

In this way ... neither the tortoise nor the hare ever wins.

The only way to win is not to play that game. You gotta figure a way out of the matrix.

I suspect that you already know this and have discovered how to live life on your own terms.
