Some good feedback here. Thanks to all. I'm more asking now cause it's spring cleaning time. I've been loading up my hatchback every night on the way home from work. Crazy thing is I am sure I'm the only one around collecting scrap. All the big items have not moved in the last 6 days. I am planning on a trip with the truck to get the bigger stuff but there's a lot too choose from. 3 water heaters several washers dishwashers etc... About 8 lawn mowers and a ton of satellite dishes along with all the other random metal. This is all in a town on my way home. I have a 70 mile commute through 6 different towns not including the one I work in and the one I live in.
So I am trying to get the most out of each trip and this thread is helpful for choosing what I bring home.
Um, about the only thing I won't take is stainless. Hunh?

All scrap has to pass my "nose test", my nose knows if it stinks it's not for me!
Kerosene heaters, hate the stuff! not worth getting the liquid in the back of the truck or on my clothes/skin.
Those round AL tables with the heavy glass table top. 2 pounds of AL not worth the glass issue.

Um not worth the bother to pull washing motors? Um you do realize the average washer motor takes 5 mins to remove and call skywards of a 100 on ebay or even locally? I have never had one returned yet in three years. Most of the time a washer or major appliance is thrown out is because the timer is shot or rusted out., I only seen 2 washer or cloths dryer motor I eyed up and my gut said no sell.
And 2 the steel drums out of the washer sell for 15 all day or add some legs and sell for 50. They make fine dandy burning pits that far out last a 55 gallon drum.
Pic is mine. After 4 washers, finally found a metal one and fired it up tonight burning some garbage wood.
And Im not being snippy, but being lazy will not make you profit. Scrap is the lowest monetary value of said item, aka garbage. Becomign more and more like that everyday. You need to look at the bigger picture. Another example. I found a busted up ryobi table saw....plastic smashed all to hell. Not only did it have a nice aluminum deck on it, but the motor was plugged into the wall and worked. Now sold 48 hours foir 60 shipped. Far better than 50c for aluminum and 2c in steel?
Proof of table saw motor working.
Ok, I guess I have to explain my thinking behind what I do because apperently I'm wrong for not stripping washing machines and dryers.
First off, I don't resell things for the most part. Yes, I understand that I can make more money. I know that. But I don't enjoy dealing with the idiots of Craigslist or Ebay. So yes, you could say I'm lazy or whatever. Also, if you read my post, I said I pull motors from machines with open bottoms. I do that because it's easy to pull them. I don't like having to mess with taking them apart very much. I like to throw appliances on the truck with the easy to grab stuff removed and just throw them off the back of the truck. Turn and burn.
About the front loading ones, TO ME it's not worth ripping them apart unless they have a stainless drum. It takes too long to strip them down for a handful of low grade wire, and a motor that's worth 1.20. It takes too long TO ME to make an extra .70. That's just me.

Um with a screw gun i can rip any major appliance, down to a shell in 10-15 mins. 15 x 4- 10 hour a in scrap!!!
If yall want save the motors and ship them to me. I dont know if it is worth it, but i would probaly pay 30c a lb for them. But they are heavy and I think cost of shipping will far outweigh it.
And no Im just tryimg to educate is all. It drives me nuts when I see 10 a/c units thrown in the shred pile or 20 pc's. Or a washer, that takes 30 sec to rip the front panel off. Then at least you could make $40 in switches if ya dont want to mess with the wire. And then I sit here looking a g in the shred like omg, I need that money \to pay my bills. And somebody tossed it off for 50 bucks. Just my pet peeve
+1 on what gravitar said. I resell mostly non metal items and electronics if they're easy to test. I know whatever is wrong, if there is anything at all, with what people throw away is usually a quick fix but I'm not a repair man and don't want to be. I already work 40+ hours a week not scrapping so I try to limit how much time I have to spend on my "hobby" money. Even though I can make 5 or ten times scrap price on something doesn't mean it's worth my time to take pics, list it and have it sitting around for possibly weeks. Space is also a concern. If I have 2 washer/dryer sets sitting at the side of the house, where am I going to put all the other stuff I collect?

Agreed. Out here, we had one place that didn't break down much of anything in E-Waste.
They're not doing that any more. I'd let it run it's course- especially with lower prices!

Some people tear stuff all the way down and others "turn and burn" but either one is right depending on your outlook or situation.
Does not mean that anyone is wrong with their approach.

Right is what works for me, everyone has a different approach and their needs change as does scrap metal market. You might start out doing it that way and later find you need to adjust your methods. whats right is what work for each individual and their different needs, as long as it's not illegal, endangering others or environmentally harmful. Whats wrong is to insinuate someone is a dumb a$$ and your here to educate the rest of us. Don't get me wrong, your intent may have been to be helpful, it may have not appeared that way to others.
