    Be Courteous To Your Competition???

    I didn't know whether to prefix this as "funny" or a "question". Just went to the yard on my lunch break and when I went to leave, some jerk pulled in front of me to get on the scale while I let someone else pass by. He got his karma immediately when someone else pulled on to the scale at the same time. They met right in the middle and neither would budge! I started honking and a yard worker came over and waved the guy coming in off the scale (which is generally how it works so the yard isn't full of vehicles). I honestly thought I might see a fist fight! They yapped at each other and that was it but it was quite entertaining to watch!



    I generally let others go first unless I clearly have the right of way. How courteous are you to your fellow scrappers?

    P.S. I think these two already know each other some how and not in a good way.

    Its happened to me too, just a guy pulling onto the scale incoming as I was coming on to weigh out. Not much I could do but wait. Yours sounds a lot more obnoxious.

    I always let someone who has already offloaded pull in before me. It's the right thing to do. Other Jerks? Let them have their Big Man moment. It's not worth a fight.

    My yard directs the scale, but I try to remember that all we all have is a truck load full of s h i t. It is not worth the loss of heartbeats to get upset over a truck load full of s h i t.

    I try to be courteous to everyone and aim to NEVER take anything they say or do personally. If they're nasty,ill tempered, and rude that's their burden to carry through life. I don't want to make it mine.

    I have 3 yards that I use regularly and they all have different rules for "scale right of way"

    My main steel yard has a Yield to out-going vehicles. This method works well but sometimes the outside trucks get backed up until the yard empty's out a bit

    The other steel yard does One in - One out. I have seen a lot of stand stills at this yard where trucks are both trying to go at the same time.

    and my non ferrous yard (if the big scale is needed) drive around the building and get back on after dumping (One way scale). This method works well because there is only one line and it moves without thinking about it.

    On occasion I use a yard in Massachusetts and they have an incoming and outgoing scale. So far every time ive been there traffic flowed without any issues.

    If I ever open a yard and have the room I think I would go with two scales. Not only will it keep trucks moving but if a scale ever needed a repair there is a backup to keep the yard open.

    our local one is not to busy as so reflects there prices lol but I do mostly tin there that's under 1200lbs load and the scale is right next to the window but its drive though stop weigh and go all in a one way direction as the yard is on the other side of the street but what I hate is when the bigger trucks or people with large trailers don't just go and park around the corner to keep flow going but instead get out and get paid and talk of course all while your waiting in line to weigh I mean I understand its a pain to park and walk a few feet but its also sucks to waste gas and time waiting
