Domestic Copper is worth slightly more than #2 Copper wire.

Domestic has always been the bottom price for Copper and #2 about 50-70 cents more per Kg, now, from the price lists I see, its the other way around. Weird.

And why not just sell #2 as 'domestic Copper'? Strange.
the Chinese use an environmentally unsound method to separate #2 ICW from the insulation, which nets then 2% more Cu from the same wire. Aslo they reuse the insulation to make flip flops rather then trash it
additionally the Chinese will pour nasty oily fouled wire, (grease wire) directly into the furnace and let it belch black smoke which cannot be done in any developed country.

in short the Chinese refuse to allow environmental concerns stop them from making money

Oh, 'Domestic' here is just any Copper metal offcuts, peices, burnt wire and chunks from things.
#2 is Clean Copper wire with the varnish still on it.

Though I only figured out a few weeks ago that because of the Chinese shredding the plastic coated insulation off the insulated Copper wire, and then selling it on to shoe and belt manufacturer's to use as 'filling' along with cloth material lint and glue, in shoe 'leather' and 'leather like' belts.
That the difference between the price for 'insulated Copper wire' and the cost of stripping it myself was so low its not worth doing it myself.
(That's for the normal electrical 'power cables' insulated Copper wire and such that you get out the inside of appliances, multi stranded Copper wire).

I honestly think the Chinese wash that #2 Copper wire and then use a recycled solvent to strip the varnish off.
Then they evaporate the solvent back off and reclaim the varnish....
It looks just like the varnish that's put on the cheap Chinese (newspaper mache'?) photo frames... That yellow/dark brown/clear varnish.

Oh, our NZ Copper prices just dropped 3%.
They had been slowly getting back up over the last few months and dropped within the last few days again.
It could be our exchange rates that did it.

The good thing about the internet - you can research virtually anything. The bad thing about the internet - anybody can upload whatever nonsense they want which leaves us to decipher truth from fiction. This in not directed at HT1's post

copper prices have been in zombie-land this year, however they have not continued there free fall, so that is a great thing. Just called 3 yards

    Yard 1:
    BB 1.87, #2 1.66, #1 ins. 1.18, #2 ins. 0.74 #3 0.33
    Yard 2:
    BB 1.80, #2 1.50, #1 ins. 0.90, #2 ins. 0.55 #3 ins. ?
    Yard 3:
    BB 1.86, #2 ?, #1 ins. 1.10, #2 ins. 0.60, #3 ins. 0.20

I will update my graph soon. They changed fire-walls at work and I can't get onto photobucket or even see pics that are linked to that site.. bummers.

At my yard the difference between #1 and #2 is usually .10. Those prices show atleast .20. My yard plays a little less for #1 1.80, but pays 1.70 for #2. Fine by me I mostly have #2

Copper finishes up 6c/lb today, it is at its highest price since October 2015! Can it keep chugging along, or just continue its slide? What are the odds we reached bottom?

My bet is it may hold or increase a few more cents UNTIL snow hits the ground, as soon as industry production slumps to reduced demand that's it until spring. My opinion. If you've got copper to unload, you better have your truck loaded already.

The only issue is that buyers arent gonna move much on price because there isnt any end users yet to sell to get the new prices....whos gonna sit on it with the chance of it going back down?

That's a legit concern. I'm sure they will creep up as they feel comfortable it wont just crash again. Either way, better than when I almost sold when it was at $2. I think, at least my yard, they are good about tracking current pricing as they buy and sell very efficiently. What they buy today is on a rail car tomorrow. Up to $2.47 at the moment..

Didn't sell a load today as comex hit $2.48, might tomorrow as I have so much other non ferrous to sell, old sheet alum. alum brk. ubc's, amoung other scrap. sjones99 as for sitting on copper I have box's weighted an taged from early 2014, only sold copper to make room for more and sold very little. Last year the owner told my boss till copper hit's $2.20 a lb. DON'T sell much as I DON'T need the money. WHO the he** dosen't need a couple million dollars? The guy who signs my check.

Well, its already reflected in my main non-ferrous guy's prices. He updated his website yesterday and #2 Cu is up 7 cents a pound to $1.65 and brass about the same to $1.18. I took in some of both last week so that's a bit of bummer but I deal with such small amounts that the difference wouldn't even yielded me an extra 20 oz. pop so no big woop. I just wish the Al would go up as well...
