Prices for iron shred worst than others...

I wanted to make two quick runs on Saturday to the yard and I made the mistake of going local. Kind of. I had 858lbs paid at $50/NT. My favorite yard was paying $130/NT. Yikes!!! No way I could of gotten two loads before they closed because of long lines.
Anyways, I handed my card out to a lot of guys who get towers and throw the guts in the trash. It was killing me! I had a water heater left in my trailer and the loader bin was full. I just pulled my truck close to the building and got the water heater out and carried it in to the scale. Some HVAC/plumber guy said to me you gotta come work with me. So he is going to call me for every water heater, furnance and whatever he doesn't want to lift. I figured I would go do the pickup, try to worm some copper from him, give my business card to the home owner and try make something of it.

By the way I made like $17.60 or something on shred. Ugh!

The payout from the yard might sting now but your cards may pay you off sooner than you think!

I know that's low pay for a lot of you out there but I took in 800# of shred last week and came home with $8.00. No that's not a typo. I would throw in the towel but I get a lot of copper motors and aluminum still from breaking everything down so I'll take the loss on shred.

Rolly, if I'm figuring right then one trip to the better yard should have paid the same as two to the cheap one, and you'd still have the second load to take in later. Free money.

With these low prices, you need to find a way to increase volume. My main yard is at 3.3 cents. I have a yard th as t is an hour away, and open late and on sundays. Had one of my best weeks ever money wise and definitely my best week ever weight wise. Missed out on 2 jobs because I couldn't get their quick enough. Got 13 computers from 1 of the jobs (in addition to over 11000 pounds of light iron). Have another job set for 10 computers plus monitors and printers provided they are OK with my insurance. Long story short, with prices low and fewer scrappers out there, you should be able to increase volume and get your name out there. This will set you up nicely when (if) prices ever go back up.

How low will it go? I found out that Madison in Lake county of Ohio has stopped their city collection of recyclables.
