Have you priced out someone to do the work?
Could get a decent price if your willing to put a little up on it. You got nothing into it at this point, worth a few calls. I'm not sure about prices in your area but around me running and driving that's worth 3-4 grand give or take.

We're not looking for another tractor, but I'd think that it's worth at least $4000-5000, depending on condition, hours, and whether or not the loader works.

Whatever you do, don't scrap it!

I definitely won't be scrapping it. That's what I told the guy, that I hate to scrap old iron if it still has life in it, and the way the engine sounds I'd say she still has some life left. Loader and 3 point work. I have not looked into getting it repaired, just what would be involved in repairing it. I maybe should do that.

My dad had an old Ford with a front end loader and we had to separate the tractor after dropping the front loader off of it to change out the clutch.

A clutch rebuild kit will run from $300-$400 depending on where you get them.

You probably would have to split the tractor to install it though. You basically do this:


I've heard that splitting isn't actually too bad, but the intimidation factor is too much for me. Still, though- that's a nice tractor for the price! You'll come out ahead!

I've got a 1959 Massey 180 that looks darn near identical to yours. (mine is 4 cyl diesel). No loader, though. That's a big plus for you--adds value to the old girl.

My 180 has been good to me...it needs brakes, not normally kept up cause they are hard to fix, and attention to the power steering. But it has swathed and baled for me for 5+ years in a row without complaining! Parts are pretty easy to get and the service/parts manuals were cheap.

A pity they were swallowed up by the Agco conglomerate. Its just a brand now....one of the bland pure vanilla brands of the Agco tractor lineup.

At least Agco is going through their "Slap Massey on everything" phase.

Considering that Agco was basically created solely because of Allis Chalmers, it's amazing that they show no loyalty to them. Heck- they seem to want to pretend that A-C never existed! They're not too fond of the rest of their heritage- Oliver, White, Minneapolis Moline, New Idea,....

Massey used to make a nice tractor. They sold a lot, so parts are cheap, and you don't pay for the John Deere color of paint (Man, that green paint costs alot!)
