Broke my bench vice. Need a replacement

Put too much muscle into my bench vice and I broke it. It was a medium sized vice that was left behind in my shop by the previous owner. I think I will replace it with something a little bigger and hopefully something that won't break. You guys have any good suggestions for a new bench vice? Probably try to keep it under $100 if that's reasonable. Thanks, silverockdzl

Harbor freight has a heavy duty one. it's a big blue one that also has the pipe jaws and swivels 360 degrees. 69 dollars i think. I've been abusing mine for 2 years now and it has been great.

M- I've looked a couple at Menards but I never pulled the trigger because they all made in China and I was hoping to find a US made one at a rummage sale. I haven't looked at other places in town. Maybe Robinson Hardware might have something different than the box stores.

Can a person order on-line from Harbor Freight? I guess the closest one to around here is in Omaha. There's a thought M, take the family down to the Omaha zoo and stop at Harbor Freight on the way out of town...

They started out as an online company. I was ordering stuff from them in the early 80's
Stores in my area did not happen until about 7 years ago

And they say in there ads >> We FedEx most orders in 24 hours for $6.99

If you're just going to use it for clamping onto smaller stuff or doing less abusive work, the harbor freight type, or less expensive vises are fine. Thats whats in my basement. But if youre going to beat on it spend a few more bucks and get at least a Wilton. I've shattered (literally split em right across the back) several cheaper ones changing U-joints in old pickups or clamping down something serious and twisting with a big pipe wrench. El cheapo for the house, heavy duty for the shop.

Harbor freight is having a parking lot sale sometime this summer, if your comin to omaha come then. Harbor freight around here gives warrenty on all hand tools so i just break it and get a replacement free, the cycle continues, there bench vise is good prices and you can't go wrong. Mount it to a heavy duty tool bench.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I will check Harbor Freight to see what they charge for shipping. I don't have anything big to beat on so I will stick with a $70 or $80 vice. I was currently using my vice (which is a 5 or 6 inch) to hold motors so I can cut the copper out with my angle grinder. There is a good chunk of copper windings in the motors that are made with copper windings(a lot today are aluminum windings for all you newbies). Cut one side and peel out the other. Nice and quick if you have a vice to hold the motor.
