Newb scrapper, just landed my own little score, besides what I have cleaning out my own shop. Anyway, told a couple friends of mine as we always go out to breakfast Saturday mornings. One friend is a bodyman at a big Ford dealership, gonna ask the boss about the scrap there. And my other friend as we were walking to our trucks in the parking lot, said he has a couple riding tractor decks, and about 30 brake rotors I can take. Not a whole lot, but could be a couple good leads.

The thing I have realized is that once you ask someone it can open a floodgate. You get there and the amount of stuff doubles or triples real quick. There is always the neighbor effect, you get there and the neighbors need stuff taken. I always carry a box of contractor bags from home depot. Once I am done with the metal I will fill the bag with any garbage so the area looks clean and leave it for trash night or take if it is small.
ALWAYS have business card or a flyer to leave behind.

Check this out about cheap business cards, it's good to have them as you can spread them around town like wallpaper.

Thanks for the support.I think my friend with the decks and rotors will be more willing to give, when he sees that he will finally be able to move around and have a functioning garage.

Just sent a picture of my new business card to another friend, within 5 minutes, texed back... " got a big BBQ grille I was gonna throw out, come and get it" Added bonus, it's Stainless. Also gonna look for more stuff for me.

Congrats! I am an introvert and have trouble talking to new people. Scrapping has definitely lessened that because I learned real fast that if I explain what I do in a little detail, a lot of the time I get more stuff!

Well I picked up my friends BBQ grill, it was not stainless, so I probably lost money on that trip. But my other friend made up for it. Brake rotors, mower decks, bed frames, wheels..all came to 920 pounds. Still has more for next weekend. Also had a couple aluminum wheels, and other misc aluminum, about 35 pounds worth. Best part is that his wife was there, wanted it all gone! LOL

Don't forget the brass fittings in the grill. Sometimes the lids are magnesium but my yard only buys at cast alum. price.
