Especially small sockets. At least for me since my yard buys them for $1.00 a lb. seems like after shipping Id get around that price anyway and I can make more money by selling the PC case with the board inside plus power supply and CD drives. I still pull the hard drives, aluminum, wire, CPU, RAM and finger cards. I end up getting like $4 or $5 per PC at my yard. Any loose motherboards I find also get sold to my yard for a $1.00 a lb and they let me leave battery's and heatsinks on.

USPS upped their postage this past month so that may be why it feels like it's not worth it to ship boards anywhere.

if you ship in quantity then they are fine...granted if they are giving you $4-5 for a CASE, power supply and a motherboard, then not bad. MB still fetch $1.80-2.85/lb....30/lb shipping and I am still REALLY good...this doesn't even include the fingerboards and ram or anything else.
Wish I was near you, I would take all the stuff you didn't want off your hands...LOL.

Last shipment was a little over 2200lbs gross weigh, 2 pallets and shipping was $210. I let my buyer arrange the shipping but we do have a highly reguarded member who arranges shipping.
PS it takes me a long time to save up that much material and I don't rely on scrap to pay the bills. We all have our own situations and we need to adjust to what works best for ourselves. Mike

Yeah I've been less and less enthused by towers since the price for mobos is half what it was when I started. I've done better now that I've found a couple of IT tinkers, one at my work and one of my neighbours.

If you ship them in boxes weighing 67 to 68 lbs and drop it off at fedex you are looking at around $.25 to $.35/lb or so depending on your location.
We can help you with freight if you have around 400 lbs or more, it can start to make sense... all that is on a case by case basis.

See this is what I was talking about...I ship to Mario and they are REALLY good. Like I said... .25-.35/lb and the payout is $1.85-2.85/lb....ummmm that is a no brainer instead of trying to haul a bunch of steel around..would be equivalent to copper almost, but this vs steel...not even in the same league IMO

very good advice above. Observe, analyze,adapt, over come, OR work for some one else who did.
Easy pikins time is over for now in the world, You have to look at scrapping as a business and deal with other business who's intrust is entwined with your success.

I have sold to the same buyer since the beginning, never a glitch, in fact beyond the pale in every way like the $ saving info above and much more. I have sold secialty items like mainframes and Tantalum to others and it is always something. Right now I an waiting on a check from a specialty buyer that supposedly mailed the check last Wed. and they are here in Florida. ( By Monday I will Write a full review on this co.)
It is time to tighten up, SR get a smaller cooler. The days of scrapping for beer and cigarette money are over for now.

make sure your equirement is maintained . A broken fan belt on the highway these days can put you out of business.

I wish I could accumulate pallet loads. Right now I'm scrapping out of my apartment, I keep steel downstairs and other low value stuff, plus stainless and aluminum since it's usually too big to put in my closet. Copper, brass, wire, computer stuff, etc I keep in my closet since if I leave it downstairs it'll get stolen for sure and it's usually much smaller. Back when I had use of the basement I used to accumulate large amounts of one type of material and sell it all together but now that's pretty difficult. When I sell escrap online Ive always sent to Mario.

This situation is where a coop may work, ot on the material necessarily but work space. two or three like scrappers go together on a storage space. Artists have done it for centuries, Street food venders have done this for years, Auto mechanics do it. and other like one man/woman Business.

That would be a great idea if I could pull it off. A lot of the scrappers in my area are the stereotypes, nobody Id wanna hang around with, I know one guy who used to live around here but moved sorta far away and recently I met this older couple who've started scrapping because of seeing me do it, they seem pretty friendly. I used to be the only scrapper in my immediate area when I first started doing this then after a while I got a bunch of imitators lol.

just rent a storage unit I use 4 of them plus my garage at the apartment plus outside storage I build to hold pallets of stuff I will give a shout to ewasted as tried and true for these past few years no glitches here as well and some how with them they get no broken screens from me when it seems other get quit a few wink wink no names. still trying others too so we shall see on that.
as for mobos I guess its the amount of work your willing to do for the money your wanting to make, the more work the more money, not taking it as a serious business will indeed get you in trouble and make you feel this way. like runners in a marathon if you focus on how many miles you have left and not on running in the moment the race is already lost.
this business is about enjoying what you do and the freedom peoples waste gives you. making $$$ drinking a beer and listening to tunes in the garage on a hot summer day tearing things down is a amazing way to make money and happily I will as everyone should.
