Revisiting the co-op in a new light

I experimented with the co-op idea a couple of years back, It didn't work.

RD (thank you) in a thread today turned on a light bulb in my head. A co-op not of selling necessarily but a co-op of un afordable work space. 3 0r 4 people go into geather and rent a storage space or other space.

There may be problems arrize from time to time like suspected theft or some one not having his share of the rent that month but I would be glad to help you all forsee and over come those obsticals.

Lets revisit this potential problem for micro scrappers. with some Ideas.
"anyone who thinks scrappin is easy money ain't doin it right!"

talk to small yards and see if you can rent a small section of their yard. They are struggling right now like you and are looking for new Ideas and of $, many just to keep their doors open.

A warehouse in the scruffy part of town that cost $1000 will cost 5 guys only $200 each and can be temporarily divided with ply wood walls.

Someone not having their rent money and others being tight on money could for sure crash and burn the situation

Theft is also a big deal, hard times make desperate people...

Ok say hypothetically for the sake of this thread 1 sq ft costs 1 dollar, so If I wanted to rent a 200sq ft area to work out of there is 200 a month for myself.

Now I have 3 others, and we rent 800 sq ft for $800 / month. I'm still paying $200, for my share, and there is just added risk.

The math may not work out exactally how I speak it but theres still some truth to the less you buy the less it costs so instead of getting more and splitting it get less and still have the same amount for the same amount.

Also to argue with myself larger spaces being split may have advantages such as loading docks, good locations, easier to maneuver but these can also cause fights (I WANT MY AREA BY THE LOADING DOCK)

Just my thoughts on the idea.

(It's not Mormons but fundamentalist Mormons who practice polygamy, there is a big difference.)

Of course there will be problems just like any other business relationship. You solve them just like any other problem.

You try to avoid most of them by a no tolerance contract.

    choose your co renters carefully.

    A 4 vote majority in a 5 person group. or a 3 person majority a group of 4 etc.

I do not need this but others may find it suits their needs. and solves a big problem.
