Just got a good hit from my craigslist ad

Was just contacted a short while ago from a lady who's company is taking over an apartment complex, and they are replacing a bunch of appliances. She said they have about 30 (mix of fridge, washer, dryer, etc) right now, with more to come. I have a 16ft flatbed trailer, so it will take me 3 trips. So I can get it done in one day I will pickup and then dump at my property, to break down later. She said they will have more as they continue to replace. Hopefully I can turn this into my 3rd apartment complex where they call me when they have stuff to pick up.

Sounds like a good deal. Do you do anything with appliances besides breaking them down??

If they work I will give them to someone who can use it. I have given them to churches, FFA groups and friends. I do not sell them to these folks as the appliances did not cost me anything, so I would not feel right about charging them. What I really need to do is contact a few appliance repair shops to see if they would be interested in them for spare parts, or to repair and sell.

That's great that you can donate them where needed. However, to say they didn't cost you anything is untrue. Your time, labor, gas, etc. all add up. If you do go the route of an appliance repair shop, make sure you charge them. You know they won't think twice about maximizing their profit.

If you donate them to non-profits such as you listed, you should be able to do something with them on your taxes even if you got them for free...

Ended up with 32 appliances (7 fridges, 8 ovens and 17 dishwashers). It was two different apt complexes, and I talked to the person who manages both. She said they will be doing more replacing and I get first crack.

Shake those dryers around a little bit and see if they make noise at the bottom. If so it could be lost change. I have picked up two dryers which had better than $17 change in each dryer. Apparently the folks that used them never bothered to take their change out of their pockets.
