Making a Work Bench from reclaimed Pallet Shelf

Hey folks,

While talking to a business friend, I mentioned how I am doing a few things around the house including building a work bench.

I told him how I was going to make it out of pallets. Boy oh boy, I love making stuff out of pallets.

He then went on to offer me some pallet shelving he had in his warehouse.

It was a little beat-up, but in pretty good shape. Good enough for me, anyway.

The mounting hardware was busted off, so I connected it with 1/4" galvanized bolts, washers, and nuts.

Here is how it looks now.






I will make the top for it this week and post more pics when possible.

It is very strong and sturdy.

And put together like this, it is worth much more than its weight as scrap metal.

Hey folks,

Here is an update and some pics of the completed workbench.

I used some angle iron from a scrap bed-frame to create a lip inside the beams that connect the sides.











The angle iron is fastened with rivets.

I used some 2x3 from pallets to bridge the front to back.



The 3/4 inch plywood came from some old tables tops that I collected while scrapping. The table legs were recycled a long time ago. :-)


And here is the finished product.




Total cost, zero.

That's awesome that you built that for Zero cost. Looks like it will last for many years. Thanks for sharing.
