Like everyone else has said, it depends on what kind of outlet you have for the cathode ray tubes themselves. Scrapping the rest of the monitor, even the plastic is no problem.

I bought 400 of them last year for $7 from a school system and ever since then, they've called me about ALL of their scrap anywhere from computers and projectors to vehicles and a cafeteria and gym that my construction company tore down and scrapped out. My county has a program that allows you to take CRT monitors to the dump for free because everyone would rather eat the costs than clean them up off the side of the road.

This being the case, I told my nephew that I would give him free reign on two bays of my shop for any purpose whatsoever and 75% of the profit off of the monitors. He got 5 boys pulled up in my drive in two hours and they had them all torn down in a week working day and night (mostly night.) It was the most impressive feat that I've seen out of a group of 17 year old boys in a long time.

UPDATE: This morning We agreed on a price starting at 0 to cost of logistics to remove items from 13 schools.

Son (Kyle) agreed to go in on this deal to see if it leads any where he is also bringing in a life long friend of his I know and respect. both he and his friend will lend much to the company in "cyber" knowledge to expand the ebay resale aspect I have been looking for for several years.

I have tentatively agreed at this point to take CRTs and TV "if" they are not overwhelming in numbers. We have a meeting set for Monday to look at a sample of material at one of the larger schools.
