I took another hit at my yard yesterday, motors/transformers dropped to .10 lb and my #2 insulated wire (had a little computer wire mixed in) they called "christmas lights" and gave me a whole .10 lb. Not a happy camper. That's why in one of my earlier posts I mentioned that as prices tank more, the more the yard changes their rules to benefit them.

It's going to be the acceptance of the true balance . We need pay attention
It's a trickle down . steel dropped first AL CU was at first hanging tight
8 months later it follows the path .
Back when scrap was .10 # for mix it still took diligence to earn $100 & from a product
that was readily a free find . CU CB AL paid well and I used as a boost to balance the sale to deliver $
CB @ .10 is not a product your gonna find like mix ,
meaning 4000 pounds a week so this price is a death quell
Motors @ .12 wile - OK if your selling off a hoard , but is low for what you find at the curb.
It comes down For me scrapping will deliver a severance pay due to my large inventory but once I sell off . Future scrapping will be just some pocket money . the 1 - 2 punch is gone . The question is how long will the down cycle last . How down is DOWN . What we feel
is down we might wish comes back.
It's my feeling for me I must sell all my inventory . Keep finding and keep selling . My future concern if prices of copper keeps dropping would be CB becomes a mix pile item .
We could be looking at a restructure . For now we can sell items for what they are .
in time Clean CU Clean AL Clean Brass & so on will be OK .
The mix pile may become the place for all else and hence cause mix to pay a bit better .

If that's what it comes to, up here it'll be $.09/lb then. Saw one of the local scrappers hittin it yesterday(was surprised to see him out and about). Around here alot of people are trying to offset their electronics instead of metal.

It's a sad note -- as a rule curb co is typical to what you see at curb and never open bags .
But whats in bags is competition to whats at the curb - bottles and cans in the bags
they are there - all people get careless and toss .05 cans to trash & that my friends tells you how low the market is getting
when a bottle or can -
can compete .

I have made many statements and predictions over the last 4/5 years. many ignored them as tin foil hat stuff but here we are. I am an amateur world researcher with a good ability to read between the lines and apply history common sense, and 70 + years of experience. So based on that take the advise with a grain of salt.
What the entire world is caught up in is called Technocracy regardless of weather they call them communists or a democracy. It is with great pain and effort both physical and mental
that I am sharing this message. I am not looking for sympathy, but joy at the wonderful.free life that I have lived, I wish all of you could have shared it.
This will most likely be my last in depth post. I am only doing it as a tribute to our friendship over the last 5 years.
My belief is that we are on a day to day mode. accumulate and sell as soon as a profit margin is reached. some ask where is the bottom. The bottom is 0 and in my view we are almost there. The scrap business is only a blip on the world economy and not an important one at that as much as we don't like to hear that.
My belief is that the near future will be in re-purpose not resell but trade, things like bed frames to make light trailers ,copper tube and stainless steel to make stills.
Go ahead and laugh but, stop for one second before you do and, figure out how the world economy is going to pay back $400 Trillion in debt.
The world "leaders" and the elite make a good show sniping at each other while their tea, coffee, or? is getting cold in their private lounge beyond the public's sight.
You have one great advantage over most of the world population in that most, scrappers have learned to make and fix things. That will make you a valuable part of what ever is ahead.
It is more important then ever to study old threads on this forum and learn all you can about every subject. Make hard copies of the most important, the net will not always be here.
I hope this post is not deleted as political it is not, I'm apolitical, my only leanings are toward what is best for family and friends.

I just bought (5) $19.98 trash cans at ... Lowes... darn later in the day I learned that I should have bought at Wal-Mart... same price but they hold 10 gallons more... oh well.. These Lowes cans fit in my SUV nicely.. so when prices go up I can load 'em in easily and cash in. Commodities prices are not going up anytime soon (Cu, Ferrous, etc) - and I am not some news-ie, or a world economic no-it-all, but I think China hit what we hit in 2008... China govt allowing trading for any citizen at all with lax'ed margin stock trading rules and regs to just boost the economy... sounds like 'hey look the otherway while Fannie May and Freddie Mac employees roll out of the parking lot with lamborginis lined with Benjamin cloth interior'!! 2008 all over again, but in 2015 in the Orient.
I am new at scrapping, but these cans have paid for themselves three times over, if not more. I think it's a good investment, just wish I figured out where Wal-Mart stored their cans before I bought at Lowes. I'll just be in the garage listening to Jimmy Buffet albums (I like all of his stuff) and scrap and store my metal like Warren Buffet. I know China will recover faster than the US. For cryin' out loud, the US is China's main client. I know. I scrap made in China fans of all types, radios, blinds, bread makers, you name it. Add it to the pile and humm along. ... 'He's the man who gave up his own name' ...

One thing i learned from scrap is to sell it off because there will always be more. Dealing with the "end of life cycle", something will become broken or obolete the next day. The dude across town that has been doing this alot longer than I does not have scrap all over his driveway, garage, or yard. He gets it, and flips it. Who wants to sit on 3 tons of shred when its .04 a lb. not me. The fun part of scrapping is going to the yard and getting paid, Not looking at heaping piles of steel.
( even thow it does look pretty killer.) Thats what I learned from this pricing drop.

You dont buy 100 shares of Netflix at $125 and sell at $112. For the same reason, you don't scrap 5 lbs of #2 copper on Monday and sell it for $1.20/lb on Tuesday just because it's Tuesday and you're at the yard. Any person who is worth their salt should know that man! Stock. Pile. Duh! You will not get anywere buying high and selling low. Do. Not. Sell. Low. No matter what.

I have my copper, brass, wire, ect stored away. A five gallon bucket of copper/ brass will be more than a pick up truck full of steel. So that load of steel is worth about $30.00 and takes up how much room compared to a bucket. I run steel to the yard twice a week, sometimes 3 if i have the time. Why would I want to sit on that x's the number of weeks until the price rises back up? Also when one of my contacts calls me, i have room for more. I do what works for me.

Remember most of us don't buy , we find , The time needed to find is a pleasure of life ( in the truck - music on ) the cost to find might be $10 fuel . Wile I think it's good to have inventory by all logic finding should last as long as we live

we are to some extent at that point - the scrap we find have persons wanting for re-purpose ,
But we like many we sell off . We are caught up with the slave trade so to speak .

Greytruck - I forgot to mention in my post that I do run my ferrous to the yard no matter the price, as soon as I accumulate around 500lbs or so which is enough to fill my car packed tight, I make a run. I should have specified that, and you're absolutely right there is no sense sitting on 3 tons of 0.03/lb magnetic tin junking up your house. I just took 560lbs to the yard two days ago for $4 per 100lbs. I got robbed, but I just cant stock pile that stuff, and $22 from trash is better than nothing. Some money for tin is better than a house that looks like a junk yard!! lol
My trash cans are for 1.) Copper 1/2/insulated, 2.) Aluminum, 3.) Motors/transformers, 4.) Brass / Aluminum overflow, 5.) Electronic circuit boards

I see you telling people how to sell their metals.........My question to you is what self-respecting scrapper would go to Lowe's and pay $20 for a trash can?.......Trash cans and totes are everywhere just ask your local yard they usually have them piled up and have no use for them

I see a lot of 5 gallon buckets at scrap yards that people leave behind. They're there for whoever wants them but I never get any because I don't know what's been in them.
Someone may have been hauling busted up crt's in them or worse.
I know that sounds silly to some of you but that's just me and on of my many OCD's.
