As Shendog pointed out data destruction is an additional service. Quite a different thing from
e-waste removal. If you could talk them into paying 10.00$ per unit for a data destruction fee it might be worth doing.
Next question: Is it more cost efficient to destroy the drive or wipe it ? Labor is your biggest operating cost so you don't want to spend any more time on them than you absolutely have to. You could probably destroy 800 HDD's in a day or two with a cheap drill press.
It seems to take at least a day to do a three pass overwrite on just one 1 TB HDD. If you got into drive wiping you'd be bogged down with it forever.
If you're in mass production mode & dealing in volume the less time you spend fiddling with individual units the better.
