Least favorite shred item to unload.

I did some searching to see if there was a thread on this yet. I didn't find any so forgive me if this has been started before.



I see lots of posts on favorites. Be it tools, methods, locations, etc. The only least favorite I found was least favorite item to break down. But we all know break down is only half the battle. At the end of the day, in order to get paid, we have to go unload.

What's your least favorite thing to have to throw out the back of your truck or trailer?

For me, its definitely a close call between chain link fence and a stack of wire coat hangers. The fence only winning because it's heavy to boot. Their ability to grab anything and everything around them is unmatched. So much so, at times it seems the items they've grabbed on to move more than they do when pulled on. Lol.

Large copy machines. I break them down (remove memory and boards) in back of the truck, remove toner and cut the cord and that's it. Way too heavy to load, unload to break down, reload and then unload at the scrapyard.

Fencing wire if you're unloading it by hand. Never fails its a tangled up mess and gets hung in everything. But the yard I deal with unloads everything with a magnet or a grapple, so I really dont have a least favorite anymore

Definally agree with large copy machines, and also ovens. They never want to move right.

my yard has magnet and grapple so i do little work.. just the plastic thats left over when done.. i would rather off load myself if i could get better prices.

One time I found a copier and had my kids with me 15 year old girl and 13 year old son we (took all 3 of us) loaded up the heaviest copier, I could have not done it without the help. 2nd place for heavy Item was a large stainless steel grill way to heavy to unload to break down so I broke it down in the back of the truck until I could move it again...

Washing machines

Large chest freezers. Especially old ones, new ones? Not so much

Was unloading a washing machine from a fire and the door flipped open and out came a bale of soaked in water and sooty fire damaged clothes.... Hate washers

I would have to agree with the fencing. Since I have a flatbed trailer that sits lower to the ground than a truck, I don't have the issues with the washing machines and heavy printers most others do. Printers I can lay them down and just scoot them out the back on the slick wood floor. I love washers as I can stuff them full of small stuff, and since the yard unloads them with the crane with claws, I do not have to worry about unloading them. That being said, since I do not depend on scrapping for much of my income, I may take a bit of a hiatus from scrapping with prices where they are now. Will probably talk to the owner of the plumbing company I pick up from and let him know since shred has taken such a nosedive, I may have to start charging him $2 - $3 each to pick up the dishwashers. He can just pass that cost on to the consumer, and most of those folks wont complain about having to pay that as it will prevent them from having to get rid of them.
