Please Stand Behind The RED TAPE, Sir

Yesterday I got a call from an electrician doing some work in the Ministry of Finance Department of the local Ontario Government building. When he listed off what he had he mentioned some 3" conduit piping along with some neon lights. When I asked how long the conduit pipes were he mentioned if they didn't fit they had a sawsall if I needed it. I mentioned I have my own grinder and all I needed was an outlet to plug into. His response, "oh no, you can't come onto the site, security is to tight here, we will bring it down to you."

When I got there they had me park outside big bay doors and while they brought the stuff right out to my van, a nice change of pace, a security guard took my plate and name! I thought he was going to ask for ID and I wasn't even allowed to set foot inside the walls! Gotta love red tape, I wonder how many of my tax dollars that cost?

I think if I was going to re-wind my work career and do something that I may not like as much but make a good pile of money, it would have been something involved with creating/augmenting security systems, gadgets, and gear. There seems no limit to what governments will spend in the name of security. The asymmetrical, can-happen-anywhere global terrorist war had made some security companies very rich. Not saying its on purpose or anything like that, just stating reality.
