Do I like lower prices ?

Look -- I miss how a simple drive most any place could net $50 and with the heyday price's
inventory built and money was there when needed .

What is nice of the lower pricing is Liberation
it's liberating to drive and not feel obligated to pick items off street .
It's nice to feel cocky when someone ask you - can you take this old fridge ? and that person looks you in the face waiting to see the excitement you have for taking his garbage .
Now as an experienced scrapper I look them back and say yes for $25

The ride is over for Us and and all that had us work for scrap prices .
There still if fine money in scrap . But free is not in my Vocabulary

This sentiment has been pushed here for awhile. I agree 100%!! What also is liberating is realizing that we have value beyond (let's call it what it is) scavenging. Even more liberating is that we can be successful and make a decent living at it! It always irritated me when people looked at me with that cocky grin on their face as if saying "here, I'll throw you a bone".... I stopped that crap very early on when I started doing what I do. I demand a little decency and human respect. No one is beneath or above me and you won't be allowed to treat me as if you are and i think all of you should feel the same.

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

The reality of the situation is that often when a "scrapper" in his beat up truck shows up to take a fridge or freezer or...whatever from a subdivision of 4 bedroom colonials he is ALREADY in a position for which he is the richer man. Let me explain. For the most part the truck would be paid for, the scrapper is a hard worker, and thus, the commodities of his labor would always be in demand. Whereas the occupant of the home has significant debt more often than not and is FORCED to work to maintain a lead on said debt. It really is that simple.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

I've thought that way, too. I picked up last year from a tech company that was in bad financial shape. Of course, they weren't the happiest to see my 1987 Chevrolet, but it was paid for. I made money on those computers. They didn't.

A lot of scrappers have the advantage of stealth wealth. If people in debt to their BMW payment want to look down on it, they can. We're in better shape....

"Liberating". My cable package from Time Warner was $80 for 200 channels. I only watched 3 or 4 channels, about 2 hours a day. I canceled it 6 months ago. It was liberating. Now I get one channel, and that is fine with me. I get so much more work done at my house. It is great.

I killed my tv, and now I am free!

the freedom of this so called job is amazing cause its hard to call it a job when its fun and exciting with all the crazy surprises. Pentium pro's in the rust bucket machines that sit by a curb or the $20bill lost in a couch no one bothered to look in or the free everything for the home, business or Christmas which is coming up, how many of you have found gifts from scrapping or for that matter made them lol

I feel liberated because this is my business.Iam retired so I can work when I want to and as long as I want to.Iam always amazed when people offer me something and they feel iam supposed to do cartwheels across the floor and bow down and thank them and they get an attitude when I say I will take it away for 15 bucks or so.Or like I told one guy last week the difference between you and I is my truck is paid for if you want to keep yours you had better be at your job everyday. He was lost for words.

Is CopperHeadAKA the same as plain old CopperHead that we haven't heard from for a couple of months?? If so, I've been wondering where he's been, along with SteelMill...from BC. He's AWOL as well.

Yes it's me , Forgot password & for some reason email is not recognized to send info to let me get new password for original account
I still scrap , Basically i limit my load to 500 # mix this allows me room for Aluminum , motors , Cu and such so with some crafty balancing i'll hit $70 or $100 plus and sure i'll remissness what it was , but still say hey $70 is $70 in my pocket from free finds
I have lots of back log inventory to work on plenty of untapped computers . I have inventory !!
couple months ago they were still paying .17 for motors so I sold about 3000 pounds .
Not sure i'll ever brake down all my inventory but I have to push on .
My job (trash company) still have and I cash in $100 to $150 per week in Cans consistently .
I get them as recycling separate and as I toss the bags if I feel them I get them also ,
I discovered fast enough due to low scrap prices I had missed out on cans all along & I buy groceries for my family with them , due to my easy way to get them and skill in scrap that is hard work BTW Cans are easy work in all aspects. I am very great-full for cans.
My scrap pick up truck is alive and well and looks like Hell HA . but it makes money each week.
I look in dumpsters as I can but tend to grab heavy dense metals and avoid lite bulky things.
I figure If fuel goes up scrap will go up a bit but not much , So this is it I scrap cause I like scrapping and what harm comes of a relaxing drive to the yard for $40 or more Heck I stay out of trouble and thats worth more then $40

Like to say (for respect of Scrap ) I was in the hole for money in September And as always scrap pulled me through
I can say I always knew what I was doing as I sold plenty of Mix during the golden years and stockpiled the good stuff. When I needed money I had plenty good priced inventory
sure lower then the good old days but $$$$$ yup
So I still have my computer boards and each month I add as I find .
I found a large board recently filled with Gold pins - about a square foot .
Any way if I did not know better my scrap is having babies cause I can't put a dent into it.

I had someone call and ask me to pick up a washer, dryer and hot water tank from her house. I told her I could get them tomorrow, and the cost would be $150.00. (Which these days is my minimum charge for any pickup.) She was shocked! When I told her the three machines would only net me about nine bucks she understood.
