    Most small appliance cords are 18 gauge stranded. A good approximation for this wire is 7.5 grams per meter (this will vary, depending on the stranding). For example, a three meter, two conductor cord from a pole lamp will yield about 45 grams (approx. a tenth of a pound). If you know the yield per length and weigh the insulated wire before stripping you should get a good idea on yield per raw weight. The following link has a chart with wire yield per length.
