With #2 heating oil and gas at a low it's time to think about filling up the 2 extra tanks I saved instead of scrapping.
looking around for maybe one more
don't forget $4 a gallon gas and $3.89 a gallon #2
be nice to have a 500 gallon backup, on the cheap.

and that's pushing it, don't know how old the gas is that your getting yourself. Also it would be winter gas which evaporates a little quicker.
I'm more for the heating fuel which can also run diesel equipment (just not on public roads), the gas would be a pre buy deal for the spring - fall equipment I use.

If you run propane, I would look into it. I haven't the slightest clue except what a 30 lb bottle cost's to switch.. tanks picked up with scrap loads are just about enough to cover grilling (my main use)
The more you buy the better price you get also many company's around here will also reduce price for same day payment. Take advantage of these perks if you can
Tip: extra tanks need to be on concrete or pavement or the delivery company's can refuse to fill them, of course you can fill it yourself but it's really better to keep it off the soil as much as possible.

Also depends on your location, temperature, and who you get it from - gasoline tends to laquor over after a certain period of time as the molecules break down(had an 88 f150 whos rear tank was laquored over).

If you buy gas in bulk you should plan on adding a stabilizer and using it in a year to two max. my opinion

without special permits or the tanks being on a farm your limited in all 50 states to all set amount of liquid fuel. also....because it has value if you were ever audited they can use the amounts in the tank all mount present price same all mounts they would value your checking account. also...for those of us living in the north we have seasonal formulations and our cars run terribly on summer gas in the winter.

Location is determining factor for me, here in Calif. regulations (AQMD - air quality management district), state, county, city and fire district, all have to approve bulk fuel storage permits. Makes it cost prohibited for bulk storage tanks, still we use a lot of 5-gallon cans of gas, pre-mix, and diesel. Keep them in color coded cans in fire cabinets for each type of fuel. I'm not complaining about price as much as I was a year ago or when it went to $5 gallon gas. We still pay way more than rest of country, today it's still $2.91 per gallon for gasoline.
We burn thru the gas so the only thing we use stabilizer in is the gas that goes in generators. As you need them to start now, not a option in emergency when people need water and power. When I was a kid growing up in Arkansas everyone outside of towns had propane tanks and bulk fuel tanks. The gasoline tanks had to be labeled (off road only for farm use), we used a lot of the "farm" fuel on highways (f the tax man).

I poke fun about where you live, I call it the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, but I do remind myself that 20 years ago your air quality situation was like a literal gray cloud over los angeles and san diego.

Shelf life of gasoline, the correct answer to that? All depends on many variables, mostly do to "blending" of fuels, many different blends from region to region and seasonal formulas. All blends use some form of Ethanol formulas, the more ethanol in the mix determines shelf life. Ethanol causes condensation that adds to "water in the tank". No combustion engine runs good on water, that's not debatable, but you will get answers of 2 to 6 months on gasoline tank shelf (or up to a year). I say shelf life is 2 to 3 months max, that is my companies policy set by me, yours truly!
Shelf life is more critical on small engines (2 cycle) and Ethanol added to gasoline causes a small engine to run "hotter". Heat shortens the life of small engines, there will be debate on this too!
