I've noticed it too. I think the low prices have a lot to do with it- our yard is virtually dead. The last couple of times I was there, nobody else showed up. They had one guy running everything- it was way too quiet.

The other thread may be combined with this one or vice versa but I'm still here - been toying around with upcycling since I got a pick punch for Christmas. Contemplating trading my ewaste for tabs, cardboard, and other upcycling materials.
I guess some "like me" don't post much, we come, we learn and then off we go to make it happen. It's pouring at the moment, winter is always the wettest months in the Islands, so not much can be done outside.
Im thinking about making a go of it here as a career, before I get much older. Looking into getting a lump of land and a bit of assistance from either the Government (they have small businesses start up programs) or go in with a couple other people who do it on the Island. Some number crunching to do, before I pull the trigger on anything.
If it's not bolted down it's mine, if it's bolted down and I can pry it up.....it's still mine....
Greytruck checkn in here. Still pop in a couple times a day.
We are just busy. I contribute what I can when i can. For the fourth time in two years we are looking at moving again (bigger). The way we do things has been evolutionary as we climb the material ladder and become end of the line providers. Big things on the horizon, do smart business, weigh all your decisions carefully (and quickly) and never miss an opportunity.

I was hoping you would show up. There was a new member from Puerto Rico who had questions about shipping scrap(may have been lead acid batteries) to mainland USA. Perhaps you or someone can locate the thread and give him some ideas. 73, Mike

I've noticed the slow down too. I usually drop in a couple times a day to see what everyone's talking about. Lately all I hear are crickets.
I took a road trip to Ohio yesterday. Bit of a drive, but it wasn't too bad. Cashed in a bunch of stuff. A lot that just doesn't make a lot of sense to ship.
Maybe everyone is depressed cause they didn't win Powerball.
Still here, Rog, just older and grayer, not smarter. Not turning down anything but telling those who can wait until spring to hope for better prices and nicer weather. Have a couple vehicles to haul off then and a limited amount of shred. The last vehicle that was given to me was a 96 Explorer. An aluminum wheel came off the hub so they parked it. Didn't hurt anything so I put the spare on, charged the battery and it's a good runner around the farm.
Don't forget Grand Falls on Sunday, Feb 21st. I'll bring you some goodies.
I don't post much anymore either. Just read everybody else's posts. I've been trying to get as many pickups in as I can everyday. I try to bring in $500 a day, it's been 50/50 since winter whether I hit that number. Not doing much scrap. Hoarding it but not necessarily on purpose. Just can't find time to hit the yard, let alone breakdown the (now, was 8 a couple months ago) 12 gaylords I have full of ewaste. After I shut my warehouse and laid off my employees, I started actually making money and that is what I've been focusing on..... What is making the money. Wish I had more to add to the forum, but I just don't .....ya know.
Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

Like others, I don't post much either. I'm still at it (scrapping) and whenever I have a question, that search thing works pretty well. I don't have a scrap room membership and with a slow connection, it takes too much time to post goat pics, although I do have quite a few!
The plan is to slow down a bit this spring due to health issues, so hopefully then I'll be posting more.
As someone who reads significantly more than I post, the slow down has given me plenty of opportunity to go back and read more of the old threads
I'm still here, just don't post really anymore. I don't really have much to say honestly.

Still here, just working 2 jobs to cover the lost days at the Yard due to the market being down. I pop in to see if anything new has posted but mostly just check and run.
Scrapper, Scrap Yard Worker, Horse farm worker, Cooler Puller and just plain ''tired''
Since my 'scrap drop off yard' closed I have just been sleeping and doing a little work around the house.
I have found a pile of scrap that I think I can get some goodies out of, but not a lot. Maybe $100 Copper.
Since its summer here I should be concentrating on fixing the weatherboards on my house.
But inside it its a mess anyway, so some times being put into cleaning up all the scrap wire and such that's all thru the house.
And getting into the scrap I put aside a long time ago to clean down, like power supply's.
I need to get a phone card recharge so I can call a scrapyard 400miles from here, they may buy my escrap.
Or I use the place nearby who says he "will buy it" anyway. He said that he "would buy it based on a ewasteds USA $ price, but our $ has dropped against the US $ and so has Gold, so escrap has dropped as well.
I just want a second opinion. Since I might go there for a little holiday anyway, just to make the most of it. $100 gas each way.
I have about 250kgs of plastic coated wire as well. If I can get a buyer (nobody here will pay good $ for it) based on Copper return I will sell it to them, or just keep adding to it.
Also, light gauge steels not worth anything either. $0.00 a Kg.
My chickens doing fine, along with its chick 'un ('Obama', its black and says "bar rraak" a lot... i hope yah get the joke..)
But I do get onto SMF every day, 9pm till late late.

I dont post much either but last month or so I have seen a down turn in the amount of freight requests I was getting and number of orders I have gotten. I am hoping its because of the winter weather and low prices.
Still here.
Still plugging away.
I check in daily , do a little research.
Been getting plenty of material and the weather hasn't been too bad." Knock wood"
Keeping busy .
I am here probably every other day... sometimes everyday.... Things are slow for me up here in Canada too.... While it's good for Americans who want to come North for a holiday, it's no so good for us... we need our dollar to come back up... The only blessing of the low canadian dollar for me personally is... with copper dropping and dollar dropping, the Canadian price of scrap copper is holding at 1.90 canadian.... However, now that it is winter, not much copper flow is happening.
I do have a bunch of stuff to do but not really motivated to get stuff done fast due to low costs and cold weather. (ok not so cold, hovering just below or above freezing)... so I will just pick away at it...
This is what I have to do:
Strip circuit boards of aluminum heat sinks and wire. have rubbermaid tub full
about 6 transmissions, 4 or 5 lawn mower engines and a 4 cyl street bike engine, but I like doing those when it's warmer.
another rubber maid tub full of wire to strip - but need it to be warmer as well for the plastic to be easy to work with
yet another rubber maid tub full of brass fittings from various things but it will end up being a ice cream pail full when I am done cleaning
a few other odd's and ends
ok so i guess I have lots to do... but no real quick and easy stuff. lol...
I am stockpiling my aluminum as it has really dropped... hoping... but doubtfull it will come back up for easter weekend.... My work is closed Easter Monday but my yard is open.... so with any luck I will have something worthwhile to take in
