Truck Stolen

So the other night my girlfriends 97 ford expedition (my scrap truck as well) was stolen from our driveway. Police found it today, so we decided to check out the damage. The rear tires and rims, mirrors, battery, door panels, and 3rd row seat were all missing. Unfortunately the police towed it before contacting her, so after the $140 they want for the tow and having no money to buy replacement parts from a junkyard, she's signing the title over to the lot. Frankly I'm sick to my stomach at the moment. Luckily she was able to get a new vehicle (07 Chevy Impala) so she's able to get back and forth to work and take the kids to school and get around obviously. So I guess I wont be hauling any scrap for awhile, but I've been focusing on better then scrap value items with the market doing a 180, for the most part. Anyways just had to vent and get it off my chest. I have a few upcoming prospects that I hope will give me enough cash to go and buy another cheap truck, until then I'll keep doing what I'm doing and try to make the best of a bad situation...

I personally would have paid the 140 and put it back on the road. Thats under 100 bucks in parts and hour tops to put it back together. Then I would dust for fingerprints, find the perps house, drive the expedition over there, and um make him magically appear at the local police station all neatly hog tied with a gag and a bow on the front door of the leo house. With a nice anoymouse note, im a thief. You could also go one step further and maybe tattoo thief in his head like they chick did with rapist in the move dragon girl with a tattoo or whatever it is.

But thats me, Im pyschotic and have no f*** left to give lmao.

Dude- Sorry to hear about your situation. I've never had anything big ripped off, just some traps now and then. But there is certainly a sense of violation and a desire to kick some ***! But after the anger subsides, I pray that your thief (or thieves) will get down on their knees and seek redemption. That is their only hope as well as ours. In the end, we all face a judgement day. Get over the speed bump and have a great rest of the year!!!

If I would have had the $140 there is no doubt I would have paid to get it out of impound. The police won't fingerprint a car unless it was part of a violent crime, apparently they're not concerned with grand theft auto. If I did have the cash, you better believe I would have went over every inch of that SUV to see if they left any prints. My girlfriend is getting a copy of the police report to see exactly where in the city it was found, so I plan on taking a trip a checking the area out.

Love how your law enforcement "helps" out the victim by making them pay to have their stolen vehicle towed. You would think that that kind of service would come out of a victim recovery fund or something but maybe the city unions have better things to get funded. Maybe Jay Leno, because he loves cars so much, and some other fat cats can start a non-profit that pays for such things such as towing for grand theft auto victims. Not real sexy but probably needed around the country. Could probably pay for lots of tows for what some of his top vehicles cost him. Not holding my breath that something like that will ever happen...

TheDude - Sorry to hear of your lost, it is way to common of a problem. The good news going by FBI statistics, better today than 20 years ago. I have had more the 8 cars/trucks stolen dating back to the 70's. All but one were recovered within a week. The only common denominator in all 8 cars/trucks? Having a car someone wanted more than me (apparently) and a value worth stealing. My first car was supper nice 72 Camaro. Going to college in Memphis, out at a nightclub with friends, close the place, go to get car (gone). Took the Memphis police 11+ hours (2am until noon) to just file a report? Two weeks later, detective called to say found your car (stripped clean). I wanted to see it and recover contents, go to police impound yard, car is literally covered with finger print dust? Fifteen years later I get a call at my job from another detective, from Milwaukee (I never been there), wanted to know about a class ring? My H.S. class ring was found in possession of a known auto theft suspect. My ring was a special ring, for basketball championship, had my initials and basketball teams record engraved on inside of ring, team mascot on one side of stone and my jersy number on other side. Detective did his job, he said it took him sometime checking high schools with same mascot and basketball teams with a 37-1 record. Found one in Arkansas, found newspaper articles with pictures. He knew his locked up suspect, wasn't the same big white boy in those news articles. Only thing I recovered from that first car.

Thanks Big. Now that is some nice detective work. Glad you got your class ring back. Something like that is irreplaceable. I'm just out a vehicle, nothing sentimental or personal, and it can be easily be replaced.

In Canada when we purchase auto insurance which is mandatory, we're given choices, if I choose fire and theft on my premium I would be covered for loose of use, towing / storage and vehicle replacement or a buy out which give me some insurance money at a discount leaving me with the vehicle to fix or for parts.

Any vehicle having a certain dollar value in damage that the premium holder buys back is subject to a vehicle inspection once repaired at which time a road worthy certificate will be issued so that the vehicle maybe re registered and insured. Same thing applies should a person purchase a write off from an insurance auction.

I've seen hail damaged vehicles that were write off’s, purchased by a new owner put back on the road full of dents with just the glass replaced to pass the safety, if your not fussy how your ride looks these hail damaged vehicles are a good buy for the dollar.

Or you could use black power and a piece of packing tape to life the fingerprint.Or simply run over to the fbi and say these fingerprints belong to a suspected kiddy toucher. And you suspect he touched one of your friends kids. They fbi will find that sob in less than a hour. Trust me...I have done it lol.
