Brittle TV

When I tried to lift it the plastic case shattered. I left some bits in a trash can and scooped up the rest for the fastest possible teardown.

It happens. I used to hear when I was a kid that carious plastics would "last thousands of years". Yeah right. Outdoors, the UV light will break down many plastics, at least into much smaller pieces when in a few years. I have a dwarf lime tree that is almost 30 years old. It comes in during the winter and spends the warm months outside. First put it in a 5 gallon white plastic bucket but painted the bucket brown. Even with protection, it broke down to the point that I had to transplant it to another pot. I suspect old tvs between the heat of operation and maybe being exposed to the sun sometimes while in the house will become pretty brittle. I hope the dg... cables were decent Cu and not some think Al wire...
