I will also add that I can buy them at garage sales for $1 to scrap. I have gotten some monsters, and it is cheaper to buy batteries for them than it is to buy a new UPS. I have my desktop and modem and printer hooked to one, my wife's desktop hooked to another, and my TV and cable gear hooked to another. Number one, it offers protection from spikes and brown outs on the stereo and other electronics. Two, it gives a temporary power to keep the stuff from just clicking off when we have a momentary interruption.
