First triple digit payout in a good while

I had been hoarding my non-ferrous for about the second half of last year. I didn't think ahead and was just throwing everything in a garbage can. When one filled up, I'd run out and buy another one or two. Rinse and repeat. Now that the weather has finally warmed up, I got around to sorting some of it. Still more to go, but here's what I turned in today to make some room.

    401lbs steel @ 90/ton = 18.05
    95lbs motors @ .12/lb = 11.40
    109lbs aluminum @ .40/lb = 43.60
    43lbs stainless @ .20/lb = 8.60
    95lbs #2 (crap) wire @ .35/lb = 32.20

Total of 113.85. Not a whole lot but I'll take it. Feels good to get a 3 digit check again.

Always interesting seeing regional differences and similarities. Yours and ours #2 (crap) insulated wire, clean Al, and SS is about the same. Your light steel and EMs way over our going rate. May your guys have local users of the steel and EMs...

Always like the good pay days there few and far between nowadays I've just managed to get £90 since the start of the year on 7 trips to the yard but I'm only taking shred in keeping all my good stuff for later in the year.

Keep up the good work and happy scrapping

Your steel, alum, and motors prices are all pretty much double compared to what im seeing in this area. What yard are you going to?

Both the SS and Al prices are half what I get. But then, I haven't seen a triple digit payout at the yard since Autumn. I made $100 on a kijiji item a couple weeks ago, selling it for less than half what it was going for on Epay. Not complaining though, since I found it at the curb.

I've been trying to clean out the accumulated pile of stuff behind my garage. It'll be nice to be able to walk through there without breaking my neck. I took a little bit in a couple of weeks ago, and came up with a bit more as I dug deeper into the pile, so I took a little more in today.

    260 lbs of sheet steel @ .0225, for $5.85, and 22 lbs of #2 insulated wire @ .20, for $4.40

Grand total, $10.25. That's a FOUR digit payout.

Two on each side of the decimal point...

Nice prices. Shred here is 60/ton so not many people are bothering with it or are just sitting on it for now. Good job on the payout though.

I can't complain too much about my shred price. Especially seeing what some of you guys are getting, or not getting at all. When I told the lady at the counter a while back that there's parts of the country down to 10 or even 0 a ton, her jaw hit the floor. Up side to the low prices though, there's less competition. Many times on my way to work id see something good in the dumpster and wouldn't have time to grab it. Now there's a decent chance it'll still be there when I get home. So there's at least some good with the bad.

$75 a ton for shred today and $0.36 per lb for cast aluminum. Was hoping the aluminum had been a bit higher.
Can't complain though. That was an extra $56.73 in my pocket and I freed up some space.

Greytruck and jnjunk, I use Lemont Scrap Processing in Lemont. It's off of New Avenue just to the west of the train station. Based on your guys locations, it wouldn't be a horrible drive for either one of you. Especially if you had some good volume, it'd be worth the trip based on your prices. They're a truck scale style yard. Weigh in, shred on a pile outside, non ferrous to the shop with a 4x4 dock scale, weigh out. First time there if you go, go to the office before you scale. They put your license and truck on file and give you a 5 digit acct number. You hold that up to the window when you scale in and out. You get an inspection ticket from the yard workers. Turn that in for your check. They're pretty lax with their shred. As long as it's about 70% steel, toss it on. Only thing they're really strict on it last scale time. Right now it's 7-330 during the week and 7-1130 on Saturday. If either of you goes there to check it out, pm me and let me know. It'd be cool to shake hands with a fellow forum member. I'm usually there saturdays as I work til 330 during the week. But come summer they usually extend their weekday hours to 430 once it's light out later. I make weekday runs then.
