    A Caboose!

I purchased an old railway caboose still on the active rail line and still on its own wheels! Just happened to see a picture of it on a railway fan website, called the owner up and we agreed on a price. Just waiting for the ownership papers to complete the deal. Hopefully will own it this week officially. Pictures will follow when the deal is done.

Hopefully you don't scrap it. They are rare in today's world. There's actually a website dedicated to selling them and they fetch between 10 and 17k if u can find a buyer. Keyword being if.

Don't worry I am planning on reselling it to a collector and I am having as a condition of sale that the caboose will NOT be scrapped.

Unfortunately there would be no way to enforce that >> so just a waste of ink

In Lake Geneva Wisconsin there is a group of cabooses that were strung together and sold as condo's. They are fixed up nicely and some are rented out like hotel rooms. You can find them at "end of the line motel lake geneva".

@johnc4x4 as long as it sells for above scrap price it probably won't happen. Hopefully the reserve is high enough to prevent it. I have always wanted to buy one and put it in my yard. The only problem is height and shipping it from a local spur to my house. Buying one in good condition plus shipping it would probably run me in excess of 25k. Hence the reason it's just a dream and my gf would probably stab me those are the two things preventing it from happening.

Well remember, pistone, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Lol. Cool score though bullion.

    Name: BCR Caboose.jpg
Views: 1091
Size: 91.9 KBThe deal on the caboose fell through.

The original owner of the caboose (CN Rail) ordered all 3 of them scrapped)

These cabooses were never used by CN they were stored on an unused siding for a long time.

This is a terrible shame that big railroads treat vintage equipment like this.

They won't even allow tourist railroads to buy them.

Cn should be putting them up for bid then. Maybe this webpage would help you out. Contact someone about them. Sometimes you gotta go over someone's head. Just an idea bullion.

I don't want to push it too far-CN is a major customer of the scrapyard and I don't want to get them in trouble with CN.

    Sad.

Love to have one of those.

I'd turn it into a cabin.

I have a friend who built his house around a caboose. It now serves as a bar, inside the house.

So many things you can do with it...
