Abandoned Verizon line ~ Nice payday for the crew

A few weeks ago while installing new drainage pipe for a road expansion project we hit a huge 150 cable Verizon line. All of the utilities were marked, however this was never marked. Many hours later we found out that Verizon had ran a new line and abandon this line. This created a nice pay day for our crew. The line runs almost 2 miles. In a few days we filled up all 6 of the crews pickup trucks, we divided equally between all of the works. There is still more line in the ground but we have to wait till we finish the 1/2 mile we are working on. I have no clue how much I have but will find out on tomorrow. I spent the last 5 nights stripping the outer shell. Boy does it make your hands sore.

If you do get more, please get a quote from your yard. We got the same pricing with the shield still on it. Both paid us #2 on it.

One thin optic fibre can probably handle the data traffic those 150 copper lines carried.

Defiantly "A day in the life of a scrapper". Some days we wonder why and ask ourselves "is it worth it". Other days we do better than expected and we our "Muy Rico" at least for a day! Congrats on your big score.

Full of jelly. My scrap yard won't accept it without stripping the outside plastic.

Well I ended up with 732 lbs. It was a heck of a lot more than I thought.

Even with jelly and outside plastic i would still give ya .60lb

I remember seeing what I thou the branch on the side of the road in a four-way intersection. Got to the scrap yard this guy was laying out a whole bunch of branches on a scale. Loaded up my stuff and scrap yard return to intersection picked up a Nice branch for the scale ,it was 150 wire insulated,took it tothe bankof scrap made 40 bucks.

That is an incredible find. I imagine you were using an excavator to dig it up. How much extra fuel did it take? What did the yard classify it as? And i've never heard the term jelly, would someone please explain?
