has anyone scrapped any die cast lately...i took the base of an old imac with a helmet shaped base of dark grey metal...die cast...i was shocked what the guy paid me for 5 lbs of zinc..not much..any guesses?

Die cast is $0.20/lb here.
Cast aluminum is $0.33/lb

7¢....35¢ for 5lbs...no wonder they make pennies out of zinc...a penny is probably not even worth a penny...how many pennies to the pound?

You got ripped on that, zinc should be paying slightly higher than aluminum.
I get the same price as aluminum for it.

I also get the same price for Zinc as aluminum. I used to bring it separate but they would just dump it in my AL bin. So I get 40 cents for all my aluminum and Zinc.

i know aluminum and zinc usually go neck and neck in price....i had 2 heavy zinc lamps..at first i thought they were brass...yellow color til i used my hacksaw...they were diecast but i got a decent price...when i thoght first they were brass i was seeing$$$$
Actually I get a lot better price than that, plus I don't have to separate them. Cast, extrusion, sheet can all go together at my yard, plus painted or not does not matter either. Zinc also goes together with the aluminum. They all go in one big pile.
Chinese owned yard, and they directly export to China, no middle man.

did you do the currency exchange?
are you getting a retail price?? or perhaps much better price? are you a great customer?
Is the yard you use currently running a lost lead to try and put a competitor out of business??? it's a perfect time to do that

Actually even with the exchange rate, works out to 0.40-0.41 USD. I am a regular customer. To get that price I need to bring a minimum of 500 lbs. They have been around for many years.

i saw a guy yesterday ay the scale and he was saying his bathroom faucets were all brrass but from experience even i know they are not...the base and some handles are die cast zinc on the low end models...cut with hacksaw and you can see..they get lower price

Zinc is not at AL prices by me .
Most Zinc you find is a Zinc Alloy - Pot metals
Naturally wheel weights are comprised of Zinc & last of the Lead
Steel wheel wheel weights has become more prevalent .
I like Zinc cause I often make a nice fire put in the cast iron pot and melt zinc
I pour it into molds and get bars . Pot metals & any die cast melts nice & pours into bars.
the weight for size is impressive .
It's all over the place . It's impressive to take handles from dressers that seem so chintzy
yet melt them into a bar and it is very substantial chunk of metal .
My personal view is Pot Metals are a hidden treasure , they melt at 700 degrees
so survivalist could make Ammo if desperate
