Looks like it overwhelmed your pallet. How big will it have to be before you take it in? Just curious.

ahhh I will give you a high five for recycling but I was expecting something bigger.
.... that's what she said !!!

Big is in the eye of the beholder , He recycles as others don't .

I am back to my skill set from the 80's Painting & all that follows it
I removed myself from the trash company I worked for as of 2 years ago
I find scrap non the less
I don't have time to leave stuff sit. Every Saturday for the past month we have been hauling one to two tons out of the auctions. Two weeks ago I spent $14 and my load coming across the scale weighed 4040 pounds. Not a bad profit for a enjoyable day at the auction. I am not big time by no means either. Just happen to be a 17 year old with a truck and a trailer. Unfortunately it is looking like I am going to need to be getting an actual job. There is just part of me that can not stop scrapping, I am afraid to let it go.

Looks good to me.If I get anything near that amount its a big day for me.
Nice pile. Make that money. Are you taking it all in at once?

So how many times do you guys handle the scrap before you cash in? Loading and unloading 40 bucks worth of scrap 4 times takes a lot of time.
![]() |
Grab it , sort it, prep it, load it , cash it in. Handling as little as possible other than to maximize the value. For example to clean up ( remove sweat fittings) copper, brass etc to get the best prices.

I got in the habit of doing that at the yard or in the back of my trailer. I don't unload anything anymore unless I'm doing a quick repack to get more in. But I don't want to touch the same material 4 times before it's at the yard. No more piles out back unless it's non farrous
What did you get for that pile?
![]() |
Yep when you put the steel on the ground you now have to handle it again.
In truck
out of truck in your yard
In truck
out of truck in scrap yard
As I do this I then separate my steel into other piles for a little more $
sheet iron
clean sheet iron
torch p&s
prepared
I wish I had a trailer that I could just park and fill with shred and then take it in when full...

When dealing with Ewaste be prepared to handle items multiple times.......Thank the Lord it pays more than scrap metal

Amen brother on the ewaste.
I might handle items 4 or 5 times before they are ready to go to their designated 55 gallon drum or box.
I was just in the garage looking at the stack of circuit boards my wife removed today from some data switches I brought home.
I'll go back through the boards and remove heat sinks, memory and any small batteries and then box them up to be loaded and taken to my buyer.
All of the shred will be loaded and taken to a scrap yard 25 miles west of my house and all non ferrous metals and insulated wire 25 miles east of my house.
So how many times did I handle my scrap.
