Sadly my old Explorer died but on the good side I have been wanting a truck for a while now so its demise was the push I needed to get the truck. Looking forward to many more loads to haul with it.

That is one of the nicer scrapping trucks I have seen. I would be scared to use the bed for scrap. The first scratch or dent is the hardest to swallow.
Give back more to this world than we take.

I don't know which is worth more, the scrap on the trailer or the Ford in front of it. (Sorry, Chevy guy. Have to razz you at least a little bit)

20.5K out the door Tax and all. What's funny is my wife found it at a local Ford Dealer online price was 22.9K it had just been traded in by one of those people who get a car every 4-5 years. Got them to put new tires and rubber floor mats in it. Plus they had done all the maintenance it qualified to be a certified pre owned so dealer cover the engine for life. $10 oil changes and free state inspections for life.
Compared to other trucks we looked at this was the diamond in the rough. When I went in to pick it up after they put the tires on it. I heared as sales man point at me and say he bought 3 hours ago. The guy was hold a piece of paper with a print from the online ad. Sorry not sorry. Lol
In case anyone wants to know the load was 1K even and the shred price was $100.00GT

I use a F 150 for my trash job with 5.0 - - Fast.................... the V6 are also nice with 300 horse
Just use trailers - might need a bigger trailer - Once you use the bed the scrap biz wins in the end .

I'll second that....build bigger taller trailers. Keep scrap out of the truck. It'll go to sh!t quick I just bought 07 mega cab. Needed room for the baby seats. Old rv frames with 6ft walls are mint. Only problem is they don't dump ....yet

I was wondering how much weight an old RV floor could handle. Are you reinforcing it?
I enjoy buying storage units at auction and have always wanted to travel to sell at some of the best flea markets. Was considering buying an old small-ish motorhome and gutting part of it for storage space, while leaving the bathroom and a sleeping area in. I couldn't find any info on whether the floor could handle that. Does anybody know what would need to be done to handle the cargo?

Some of the finishes I've seen in motorhomes are heavy. Ceramic tile, cabinetry and appliances add up. Also, if you lighten up on the water and sewage you carry and don't have any other passengers, I think you could safely carry several thousand pounds in a gutted RV without beefing up the frame.

Usually from that strap you threw over and it smacks the side of the box. Learned the hard way.
I have built a few trailers using rv frames. 3500lbs single axel. 14ft 16 long. I save bed frames sand the rivits out with a flap disk. Weld away. The one I'm using now I built 3 years ago with with roof but cut it off. Ramps made out of a bent extension ladder and some ply wood. It's the trailer that I wasn't sure what I was thinking. Nothing went right or the way I planed it. It was the rushed no money build. You can tell I built it on the dark. But it's hauled 20-30 thousand pounds of scrap at lest. I had a car hauler equipment trailer but down sized I didn't want to pay for the comerical vehicle yearly inspection. My trucks 9000lbs empty. And over weight. Anytime in had a tandom on in was getting tickets empty or not.
I'll try and upload a couple pics on photo bucket might give you an idea how easy but time consuming building a free trailer is.
Scrap stays in the trailer no loading and un loading unless I'm repacking to stuff more in it. Only problem it looks like a jalopy.
I'm trying to only put buckets of non-ferrous in the bed all the steel goes into the trailer. As for a larger trailer I wouldn't be able
to go larger than a 6x10 as i wouldn't be able to fit anything bigger on the side of the house. The 5x8 I have now is only rated and titled to hold 1500 but I don't like to push my equipment the most weight it ever had in it was 1300. So puttin sides on it would just add a hundred pounds or so and not really help with big loads. I do have 2 8 foot section of chain link fence that I keep and use as sides when i have small loss item to hold them in.
