    Faking me OUT Scrapper

Situation Sunday : I get some fuel and I see a Dumpster at a bank Mostly all cardboard looking stuff
but I take a look . Well I found wire & Copper is always good -
just a few pounds But a few pounds little by little
    makes for a 50 pound day .
Any way a Guy of 19 years or so pulls up in a pick up
an OK truck but a touch raunchy.

    He says to me
"What kinda work you guys doing at the bank ? "
I say not sure what there doing I'm just scrapping a bit
I can see he is looking at the hand full of wire i'm holding
He then says hey scrapping not aloud here , YOU HAVE TO PUT IT BACK !!
I said wait a min . what kinda question did you just ask me ?
I said Who are you ?

He says " this is my crew - ( like he is the demo workers )
    so put it back "

I said look i'm holding at best $ 3.00 in wire
look at my truck . I got 4 kids . I scrap & need money for my family
    I'm hurting no body .

He looks at me and says alright it's OK .

I think he was trying to fake me out and get my find But after my story of reality
he realized his story was taking on a little to much humanity for him.

I took the guy at his word but feel he was gaming me
    any way
I got the wire but this is the first time had such an odd thing occur.

I agree he was likely looking to push you out of what he thinks is his scraping territory. You handled it well.

I suggest you work on getting actual customers where you can pick up large loads and perhaps get paid to remove it. 73, Mike

I stay away from bank dumpsters. Someone may see you and think you are "phishing" for people's identities and/or bank account information. Then they may call the police. Just not worth it..

I would be worried about any bank that just throws away information like that. Doesn't seem like a justifiable reason to stay away IMO.

always good to ask cause its a great way to leave a card for future but banks indeed be careful of for anyone digging is usually looked at, most good banks with have locks on their dumpsters for identity theft reasons but that also could be looked at as someone trying to break into them as well. real good banks use shredding/incineration services

I'm not saying there is any information in the dumpsters. I'm saying a bystandard would PERCEIVE someone digging through a bank dumpster as looking for information. You gotta remember, the general population is dumb, I mean really dumb. But, do as you will.

What an odd situation, he messed up seeing if you were part of the crew first then saying he was part of the crew second...
way to stick to your guns even if it was only a hand full of wire.
