A buyer for a national chain of salvage yards told me yesterday that the Republic of Turkey is the biggest buyer of US scrap and not China like we all thought. He said they must be the hub of all industry for that part of Asia. The mills are full and contracts are not 'let' until the 10th of the month so they operate in limbo until that date. He also said that their prices have dropped back by $20/US ton this last week and is expecting it to go down another $10 soon. Prepared steel 100, long iron 85, auto bodies/tin/wire etc. 70, Yellow brass 1.13, sheet alum .29 and insulated copper wire is .89. (Nebraska)
