    Hawaii scrap

So I'm out here in Hawaii on the island Oahu in Honolulu. Between yesterday evening and this morning I have seen 4 top bottom washer dryers sets, single units, AC, freezer and just random metal. Are people not scraping or maybe it's against the law. I just can't use my rental car to get anything and it's killing me. Lol

I'm going to recycle the world.

There was someone here from Hawaii. Maybe they'll show up with an explanation.

I think I recall them saying that there was few (maybe none) scrap yards on the islands. The cost of transporting metals to the mainland makes it a losing proposition for scrappers.

Schnitzer Steel has a recycling yard in Oahu. Maybe give their yard a call to get specifics on the laws there.

I count 8 scrap yards that show up on an app I have. If I'm not mistaken one of them had a large fire a year or 2 ago. I remember we did have a member from here think he was talking about that fire. Found an old post the guy is scrap808. And the fire was August of 2015.

I checked the link for Schnitzer Steel. "Competitive prices paid" usually means not the best.

Yep, less competition means they can butter their bread on both sides...
But, it also translates to 'less competition from other scrappers'. Holiday towns and the seasons are consistently shifting people around, people who need things right now, and will pay for it, as well as paying for a dumpster to dump it all into when they leave.

Hey, Hawaii, and free money, what else could you ask for?
