Dump trailer

I agree with Cummins as far as more information and pictures. Is it a goose neck or bumper tow, type of flooring, gauge of steel, etc. The other consideration is the personal benefit you get from the trailer. Personally a dump trailer is of no value to me because all of the yards I visit use magnets to remove my metal and my loads are often mixed.

For comparison, I have $ 1,000 plus labor into a tub trailer 6 x 26 built from an old stock trailer. The axles are rated at seven tons. Given the fact you used it for two years for free and regardless of condition, I would offer $ 2,000 for it. That is what I figure my tub trailer is worth.

I have no experience with dump trailers. You have at least 2 years experience with this trailer. So how does it work for you in your business? If its not what you want how much would you have to pay to get what you would prefer? I don't really expect answers to my questions but are asked to point out YOU are the expert on this subject.

I would ask the owner how much he needs to sell it to you. I know you feel you owe him (and I think you do) but it still has to make sense for your ongoing business. After two years you may owe him at lease a new set of tires. Of course if in two years you made just a few trips then that alot different than two trips a week.

well at least in my neck of the woods (Georgia), I can get a BRAND NEW dump trailer (6x10) for about $4100. And that isn't even shopping around or negotiating. I mean condition is EVERYTHING and it is 10 yrs old. I know resale value here is often not that great either...$1000-1500 unless it is in EXCELLENT shape...then I MIGHT go to $2K TOPS

Again, it all depends on your market. Jump on Craigslist and look for dump trailers, new and used. It should give you a better idea for your local market. Then you have EVIDENCE to use to your advantage in negotiating.

yep ALWAYS negotiate...start at $1500 and end up in the middle at $1750 or so...everyone wins

I can get a new 8X10 in Jamestown, ND for $7K. Now, I asked what they would give me in trade (Mine is a 2009- PJ brand- Rieceiver Hitch- 14Klbs Gross- 10Klbs Net) They wouldn't even trade it in because it is such a rust bucket. The sales man told me to list it online for $4k and see what happens. Never did that. Decided to drive the wheels off it.

I also checked into having it sandblasted and repainted. That estimate came to $2500. No thanks.

I am GUESSING I could probably get $2800 for it. So I would say $3K for a 5X10 is too high. (Are you sure it's 5X10?) That seems like a weird size. Put a tape to it, I bet it is 8X10.

So, I would say, and this is just my opinion, if it is indeed 8X10, and the dump works and the tires are ok, (a new tire is about $120) and the battery and electric brakes are ok, I would give him $2600 for it, and $200 for letting you use it for free for the last 2 years.

Opinion: $2800

EDIT: I see you are in MN. Sparks Trailers is out of Battle Lake, MN. Give them a call and see what they think it is worth. Couldn't hurt.

EDIT 2: My trailer and the new one I looked at is 8X14 not 8X10. So yeah, 5X10 trailer is legit.
